Job summary

The Investment Directorate delivers economic growth to the nations and regions of the UK by attracting and retaining inward investment. We provide expert advice and support to investors, identify and promote strategically important investment opportunities, enhance the competitiveness of the UK business environment, lead on the department’s investment strategy and build strong investment capability across the department.

This role is part of the Investment Capability Team. We work with external partners and colleagues across the directorate to design and manage a broad learning and development (L&D) programme for the department’s investment staff in the UK and around the world.

You’ll be joining an engaged, welcoming and motivated team. We have a strong focus on creating a positive working environment and actively promote L&D within the team.

Your role

Over the next year, we will be revising our core investment L&D programme, the Investment Academy, so that it better supports the achievement of the department’s long-term goals. As Investment Learning Consultant, you’ll take charge of implementation, making sure the strategic vision translates into practical, high-quality learning.

You will:

  • manage the planning, design and implementation of new or updated digital and other learning content by our team or external partners.
  • oversee day-to-day management of the Investment Academy, including establishing effective admin processes.
  • monitor and evaluate learning content, training delivery and administration to drive continuous improvement.

You’ll work to ensure our colleagues get the engaging and effective investment L&D they need to perform their roles, thereby helping the department secure even more inward investment for the UK.

Aside from the Investment Academy, you’ll also carry out discrete L&D consultancy projects. This will involve working with Investment Directorate colleagues to analyse problems and provide appropriate, effective and creative L&D solutions.

Job description

  • Design learning content in a variety of formats (especially elearning) that achieves business goals and manage creation of such content by others.
  • Working with our external partner, manage the Investment Academy programme effectively to promote good attendance and learner satisfaction.
  • Partner with subject matter experts and senior colleagues to analyse business issues and suggest appropriate learning solutions.
  • Take a proactive approach to data gathering and analysis regarding learner feedback, training delivery etc. to inform continuous improvement.
  • Present data to senior leadership to report progress and make the case for our team’s initiatives and proposals where appropriate.
  • Input into strategic decisions regarding the team’s overall investment L&D offer and deputise for the G7 as appropriate.
  • Train and coach others in L&D skills and best practice.
  • Line manage one HEO.

Hybrid working

The role will be based in either Darlington or London. You will be asked to express a location preference during the application process.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.

Support in applying for our vacancies is available by joining a virtual Candidate Support Session. These sessions include helpful tips and advice on the recruitment process, from application to interview.
