Job summary

An exciting opportunity exists to join the Defence Intelligence Training Group, within Defence Intelligence (DI). You will be part of a specialised team providing vital training to develop the foundational skills of our analysts, who underpin all of the work that DI undertake, supporting policy and decision-making at the heart of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the cross government national security community.

In addition to delivering the existing course material, you will have the opportunity to support the development and continuous improvement of the training to ensure the course meets current and future requirements. Within resource, the trainers may also be required to deliver other intelligence training in the wider Defence Intelligence training enterprise. Delivery of the course will initially be to other Civil Servants new to the field of intelligence, but future aspirations involve providing training to military personnel from Army, Navy and RAF moving into the intelligence community.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

The role will be part of a 3-person team that regularly delivers the foundation training required for personnel from a variety of backgrounds, who will then go on to deliver intelligence output once qualified. The course will be a blend of online and classroom-based learning, which you deliver and manage to meet specified training objectives.

Your teaching and mentoring will enable trainees to develop a strong foundation of understanding that will enable them to flourish in the intelligence community to support the wider defence enterprise.

Although intelligence experience is essential, you will be provided with all the required course material to digest and understand prior to delivery of your first course. You will also receive support from experienced intelligence professionals as you become familiar with the role and throughout your time in the community.

When successful a candidate will receive all required training for the role including undertaking the existing course, the Defence Trainer Course, Open Source Intelligence Training, Health and Safety and Care of Trainees (safeguarding).

There are some opportunities for hybrid working in the role, but applicants must be aware that face to face delivery in the classroom is a crucial part of the course for which the instructors must be available for. Specific working patterns and schedules can be discussed once an applicant is successful.

Training and Education within Defence Intelligence is currently part of a wider transformation; to ensure personnel are being taught using modern and effective teaching methods and resources. The Fundamentals course has recently undergone a restructure to optimise output for all services and is the ‘flagship’ course, to demonstrate the vision of modernising and optimising training and education. The course allows attendees to gain insight of the intelligence cycle, collection and management of intelligence materials via a variety of sources, such as cyber and open-source materials.

In DI we believe your unique experiences, view and understanding of the world could provide a vital perspective and contribution to our work. We recognise that great minds do not think alike and are striving to increase our diversity representation at all levels. As an equal opportunity employer, we hire, train and promote people based on merit and aspire to create an inclusive workplace free of discrimination.
