Job description

This is a new role in the Commercial Capability Team which sits in the Group Commercial Directorate of DfT.

Commercial Capability is a key priority for the civil service, and with significant changes to procurement regulation on the horizon the role holder will play a significant role in ensuring that commercial capability in the DfT Group (central department, agencies and arm’s length bodies) have access to and undertake relevant training to support the delivery of their roles).

This role will be responsible for coordinating Learning & Development, supporting capability led change projects and generating data sets to support strategic goals. The Commercial Capability Project Support Manager will act as the process lead for capability data and sourcing learning whilst providing general support to the DfT commercial capability team. They will support in identifying opportunities within DfT for disseminating Commercial Capability.

The individual who will take on this role will be actively supported in identifying and undertaking professional development to raise their capability to help achieve career aspirations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting on the delivery of Commercial Capability projects such as the Transformation of Public Procurement and the Contract Management Capability Programme.
  • Liaising with stakeholders across the DfT Group and other Government Departments in support of project implementation.
  • Acting as the Capability Forum secretariat which is responsible for ensuring the People Pillar of the DfT Group Commercial Strategy is embedded across the group and continually improves.
  • Creating and maintaining a range of databases in support of capability projects, including accurate records to support budget management and profiling.
  • Creating, maintaining and sharing data and statistics to support and inform the Management Information & Data Systems.
  • Support the delivery of training identified in individual Professional Development Plans which may include procuring closed courses and/or a series of events where groups of individuals have the same development need.

About you

To thrive in this role, you will:

  • Have a degree of Data proficiency and Excel expertise as these are essential to enabling success in the role.
  • Have experience of working in a project support environment, in particular the use of data in support of projects.
  • Possess the ability to deliver at pace with competing demands and priorities.
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively with key stakeholders (orally and written) to support positive outcomes.

Additional Information

This role may involve occasional travel across the UK.

A minimum of 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
