Job summary
The Defence School of Marine Engineering, HMS Sultan, is the largest military training establishment in Europe and is responsible for the training and development of military engineering personnel. The successful candidate will be working within the Allied Trades Marine Pipework Department alongside 3 colleagues. The training syllabus for the section is predetermined by the Royal Naval Training Authority and is designed to impart the skills/knowledge necessary for active service within the armed forces.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Please note that DSMARE is due to transfer to Navy Command within the period Nov 2024 to Nov 2025. This post may therefore be in scope for potential outsource under Project Selborne during this period.
Job description
The primary role of the successful candidate will be:
To instruct marine pipework engineering techniques and associated theory to military personnel in accordance with the designated course Learning Specification (LSpec). Continually monitor trainees progress, complete formal assessments, submit relevant assessment documentation to the departmental manager (ATM).
Efficiently manage and maintain training equipment within their domain, including when necessary the procurement of consumables through the stores system. When competent to do so, act as a secondary instructor during times of staff unavailability due to circumstances beyond managements control. Undertake routine updates of course documentation in order to maintain accuracy and Defence System Approach Training (DSAT) compliance. Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) advice on all matters relating to core training outputs to improve training delivery. Complete all Mandatory Training, Continued Professional Development (CPD) in accordance with Civil Service/MOD Policy.

Candidates should have practical experience and knowledge of the following Coppersmith/pipe working techniques production of template wires and scale drawings, operation of pipe bending machinery, Oxy-Acetylene & Propane equipment, Brazing (Silver Solder) and Soft Soldering, Basic Plumbing Skills. IT skills (windows) would also be advantageous.

Selection process details
Candidates will be required to provide CV details to include: job history; qualification details and previous skills and experience.
The selection process will include the following:
1. A practical test to assess appropriate trade skills.
2. A theory test (multi choice) to assess trade knowledge.
3. A short (15 mins) presentation which should be relative to the post advertised.
4. Interview.
