The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is a part of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in-service support, and disposal of the UK’s nuclear submarines. Job description

Are you ready to take your career to the next level and work on some of the UK’s most vital Defence projects? If so, we, the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) are looking for experienced and motivated Systems Engineers to join our project teams. In joining us, you will integrate with highly skilled professionals to support some of largest and most complex engineering programmes in the world. You will work at the forefront of marine technology and latest platforms to oversee engineering challenges unique to this industry, whilst contributing to project success and providing support to the Royal Navy.

As a Systems Engineer and SDA representative, you’ll have the opportunity to lead on the development of requirements within your role. You will engage with delivery projects across wider SDA teams to provide specialist systems engineering insight to the submarine enterprise. You will lead on key deliverables and interface as intelligent customer to our prime contractors, ensuring integration of submarine systems meet contractual requirements.

Please note, these roles involve domestic regular travel to UK sites and there are potential opportunities for international travel.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the delivery of all engineering aspects in area of responsibility as defined in the assignment specification or objectives including managing the acquisition safety aspects
  • Provide expert advice and guidance in own technical area to solve complex technical problems and identify application risks
  • Manage the technical requirements for the acquisition lifecycle stage of one or more project, programme, service or system.
  • Support the development of system architecture and lead on the development of the project systems engineering approach and the management of industry to deliver on it
  • Monitor and implement any governance and assurance policies and procedures to ensure the ‘safe & professional’ status of the area led
  • Lead on the development of requirements related to own area of specialism including acceptance plans, performance criteria and draft specifications
  • Interface with industry as the intelligent customer both in a scrutiny role and supporting the identification of application risks

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • You will hold a relevant Level 4 (e.g., HNC) qualification or demonstrate the equivalent experience
  • Experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes
  • Wide ranging depth and breadth of technical experience in own specialism with knowledge and application of Systems Engineering approaches, whilst delivering Systems Engineering artefacts
