Job description

As an Engineering Manager, you will be joining our Land Equipment Operating Centre (LEOC), a hugely diverse domain, delivering a portfolio of cutting-edge equipment for our Front-Line Users from rifles to armoured fighting vehicles, from generators to heavy equipment transporters and from personnel protective equipment to Weapons-locating radar.  You will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the best in the industry; front line users, industry experts and a passionate workforce delivering equipment against stringent requirements and pacey timelines. From attending trials to working with the User to refine requirements to working with Manufacturers to understand the art of the possible, no two days are the same.  Ultimately, all coming together to provide pioneering platforms for our customers.

Please note, occasional domestic travel to other UK sites will be required and there may be the opportunity for international travel.

Responsibilities

  • Lead from the front, interface with industry and stakeholders, as the intelligent customer, both in a scrutiny role and supporting the identification and management of risks associated with procuring complex military equipment
  • Refine requirements, develop the best solutions and determine how to deliver them to the customer, utilising cutting-edge technology, to deliver world class military capability
  • Create and maintain engineering plans to enable collaborative working across the team and with stakeholders
  • Provide engineering assurance across the project lifecycle holding contractors to account, ensuring best value to the taxpayer
  • Lead on the development of requirements related to own area of specialism including acceptance plans, performance criteria and draft specifications

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • You will hold a minimum of a Level 4 (i.e. HNC) qualification in a relevant Engineering/Science discipline, or will demonstrate the equivalent level of experience
  • Technical expertise in an engineering discipline, such as but not limited to: Mechanical, Systems or Manufacturing
  • You will demonstrate experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes
