Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) are an executive agency of the Scottish Government, and we are looking for motivated individuals who are looking for a rewarding and diverse career as anArea Civil Engineer.

The Civil Engineering team plans, designs and manages a network of forest roads and associated infrastructure, including bridges and extractives sites (Quarries). The forest road network supports land management and particularly the harvesting and marketing of timber from Scotland’s national forests and land. 

Job description

You will support the Operations Manager to ensure that The UK Woodland Assurance Standard, corporate, technical, health, safety and environment standards are met in delivery of the civil engineering programme. Develop civil engineering delivery in the region by embedding innovation, best practice and value for money outputs within the civil engineering team.

Experience

Essential:
• Experience of working with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, environmental protection and other legislation associated with construction 
projects in remote environments;
• Practical experience in civil engineering or a related field, including leading and managing a team of operational contract managers;
• Experience of working with New Engineering Contract level 3 or 4 contracts;
• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Desirable:
• Experience with forest road construction, including relevant experience with quarrying, blasting and stone production and associated regulations;
• A sound understanding of procurement rules associated with public bodies.

Technical

Essential:
• Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) or Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Civil Engineering or related field or clear demonstration that you are working towards this qualification and/or:
• Suitable qualification or demonstrable experience to allow you to apply for Incorporated Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers with a  commitment to achieving this within 2 years. 
• Competent user of Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.

Desirable:
• Chartered Engineer Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers or other relevant professional Institution.
• National Vocational Qualification level 4/Qualifications and Credit Framework; Safety, health and environmental management in the extractives industry. 
• A relevant Construction Skill Certification Scheme card.
