Job description

If so, here at the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA), we have an excellent opportunity for a motivated Junior Electronics Engineer to join us. You will be part of a highly experienced Primary Build Team working on Dreadnought class submarines in Barrow-in-Furness. This role involves assessing the technical risk of build activities, managing stakeholders and developing enterprise processes to deliver the teams build assurance outputs, therefore ensuring our product is delivered in accordance with design intent. Whilst also assisting the team to find solutions to emergent issues in a fast-paced shipyard environment.

We will support you in your career development, giving you exposure to novel shipbuilding methodologies which will be used for next generation classes of submarines. You will support the delivery, test, and commissioning of the Primary Nuclear Electronic Control and Instrumentation (EC&I) systems.

If you choose to be based at MOD Abbey Wood, Bristol, please note that you will be required to attend Barrow-in-Furness for a week per month, for which travel, and accommodation costs will be covered.

Please be advised that due to the nature of security, these roles are reserved for sole UK Nationals only. There will be occasional domestic travel to other UK sites and the potential for international travel.

This post may be eligible for the NSQEP Recruitment Retention Allowance of up to £4000 per annum. This allowance is discretionary and will be dependent on a candidate’s ability to successfully demonstrate the necessary competency, qualifications, and experience to an independent panel of Subject Matter Experts. 

External and internal candidates may be entitled to relocation expenses for this position. This will depend on the outcome of an eligibility check by Defence Business Services (DBS).

Responsibilities

  • Provide assurance that the design conforms to the relevant engineering and build standards, and contractual requirements.
  • Assess technical risk of major build activities, delivering mitigations in partnership with industry
  • Management of the team’s technical exchange portfolio and arrangements, with opportunities for international travel
  • Support the build, test, and commissioning of Dreadnought’s Nuclear Electronic Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) systems
  • Support the team in finding solutions and resolving emergent issues in the build of the Nuclear Plant

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Hold a HNC (i.e., Level 4 or higher) qualification in a relevant field, or have the equivalent experience
  • Experience working with other teams and a variety of stakeholders
  • Experience within manufacturing, maritime, electronics, quality, or nuclear engineering environments
