The asset management team is a small team that works with Network Rail on its journey to achieving best practice in asset management to continuously improve performance, efficiency and safety.  The team’s work portfolio in the area of environmental sustainability has continues to grow and now coverers a number of significant areas including; holding Network Rail to account on environmental performance and working with colleagues across ORR to embed environmental sustainability into other core work areas of our regulation.  

By monitoring asset performance and working with Network Rail to improve its practices, a more resilient and reliable network will provide a better service for passengers and customers. In addition we undertake a similar role for HS1 Ltd.

Job description

Job Purpose

We currently have a vacancy in our Capital Investment, Engineering and Asset Management (CI,E&AM) team for an Engineer or environmental specialist with significant experience of working with large infrastructure owners in the field of environment and sustainable development.

Reporting to the Principal Engineer this role will support our holding to account work particularly in the areas of decarbonisation, biodiversity, air quality and circular economy. You will use your own experience to evaluate stakeholder strategies and policies, monitor key performance indicators, lead engagement with stakeholders and assist in development of training of the wider ORR.

There will be a number of interesting challenges ahead for the team including monitoring Network Rail in a devolved environment and working with the wider railway industry to deliver the goals of the different Government stakeholders in these areas.

The job can be delivered from any of our offices but is likely to involve meetings in London, with Network Rail regional business and stakeholders nationally (under normal working arrangements).
