Job description

Are you a Systems Engineer who is passionate about national security looking to develop your skills and make a real difference? If so, here at Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) we are actively recruiting two Systems Engineers to join our brand-new Land Certification Authority Team (LCAT).

We are offering the opportunity for you to join this novel team, to support the creation of LCAT and safety assurance within the Land domain. You will provide advice, oversight and certification against standards and assurance to Land Domain primary platform procurements to ensure that equipment provided to the Front-Line Command areas has been rigorously assessed in line with new and emerging Land Safety Regulatory requirements.  

You will be making a wider difference in the support of the safe by design argument for equipment in Land whilst being surrounded by highly experienced safety and systems professionals working towards a single certification goal. These are diverse assignments looking at multiple platforms with varying degrees of complexity.

You can choose to be based out of one of our following locations:

  • MOD Abbey Wood, Bristol
  • MOD Manchester
  • RAF Wattisham, Ipswich
  • Leonardo Helicopters, Yeovil
  • MOD Kentigern House, Glasgow

 Due to the nature of security requirements, these roles are open to sole UK nationals only. There is the possibility of occasional domestic travel to other UK sites, as well as international travel.

Responsibilities

  • Operational direction and delivery of engineering activity in area of responsibility as defined in the assignment specification or objectives
  • Provide technical advice related to own specialist area to solve complex problems with innovative solutions to support improved performance and enhance capability
  • Provide governance, assurance and advice on complex projects and portfolios in own area of expertise to guide and influence senior leaders, scientists and decision makers
  • The Systems Engineer has the authority to recommend the acceptance or rejection of certification submissions to the Certification Lead
  • Conduct thorough assessments on Land System certification submissions
  • Accountable for recommendations related to the assessment of Land System certification submissions

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • You will hold a relevant Level 4 qualification (i.e., HNC), or able to demonstrate the equivalent experience
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or has demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills and experience
  • Wide ranging depth and breadth of technical experience in own specialism with knowledge and application of Systems Engineering approaches
