Job summary

DE&S Deca is a specialist part of Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) tasked with supporting a vast range of defence avionics, electronics and components to provide high-quality, cost-effective support to the UK Armed Forces. We have a rich heritage as the MOD’s in house repair, maintenance, overhaul and upgrade service provider by offering innovative solutions to guarantee best value for Defence.

The main tasks and responsibilities of the post are:-

  • Inspection, installation, servicing and repair of various types of Medical, Dental & Veterinary equipment held by MoD customer units.
  • Plan scheduled equipment programs for the MDSS team including liaison with customer.
  • Diagnosis of faults to major component level and specification testing of all Medical & Dental equipment (both Mechanical and Electronic) using MoD publications and Manufacturers manuals.

Being mindful of the scrutiny on Public Sector pay and in accordance with Civil Service Terms and Conditions, salary on appointment is normally at the minimum point of the salary range and this should therefore be the expectation. Existing Civil Servants will be appointed in line with the normal Civil Service pay rules.

Job description

Medical & Dental Servicing Technician:

Respond to breakdowns and emergency call-outs as soon as reasonably practical, taking into account priorities and customer target dates.

  • Monitor MDSS performance against customer contractual targets.
  • To ensure that all Medical and Dental equipment under the responsibility of DE&S Deca is maintained to the correct standard
  • Maintaining and raising all the necessary maintenance and performance records as required in accordance with MoD publications. These consist of both manual and computer records for all work carried out on Medical & Dental equipment; including spares & defect reporting.
  • Co-ordinate the provision of spares with MDSS customer and equipment OEM’s.
  • Ensure MDSS monthly data is completed and Work in Progress is minimised.
  • To ensure compliance with all relevant DE&S Deca policies, health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Be responsible for the investigation, completion and maintenance of all associated assessments, inspections and checks.
  • To promptly report serious problems and issues that will prevent any maintenance from being completed at the required time to the MDSS Production Manager.
  • Create and maintain a positive culture by raising the profile of DE&S Deca (Med & Dent) to other DE&S Deca employees, customers and contractors.
  • Feeding of information back into the Medical & Dental Management Information System
  • You will be required to make on the spot engineering decisions on equipment’s, including withdrawal from use where patient or user safety is concerned.
  • Scrutiny of relevant safety bulletins and hazard warnings.
  • Safety is a primary consideration and work of high integrity is paramount

Most work is carried out at the customer’s site, so you will be required to hold a full UK driving licence and maintain a high level of driving competence at all times when driving a DE&S Deca vehicle.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. Monday – Thursday 8:00 – 16:30, Friday 8:00 – 13:00.

Person specification

Essential criteria:

  • Recognised and relevant training/qualifications in an Electrical & Electronic Engineering minimum of NVQ Level 3.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • MoD biomedical engineering certificate as required by JSP 473 or will agree to attend a 6 week (Monday to Friday) residential course upon appointment (currently MoD Lyneham).

Desirable:

  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. (Word, Excel etc.).
