Effective use of data is at the centre of our work to bring about a Net Zero energy supply. 

As a Data Insights Analyst you’ll be working in our new, dynamic and growing Analytics team. It’s a team that’s cross-functional, diverse and knowledgeable, where you will accelerate data driven decision making, digital transformation and enable self-service analytics across Ofgem. You’ll be responsible for designing and developing dashboards, reports, visualisations and alerts in support of our strategic decision making – using tech such as: Power Bi, Azure Synapse, Python and Qlik Sense.

In this role you’ll design, build, test and deploy new analytic products and help maintain existing ones. Having discovered/accessed the data sources and pipelines you’ll deliver the analysis – looking for trends, drill downs and creating forecasts. Your exemplary techniques will contribute to training events – sharing techniques and expertise.

With knowledge of mathematics and statistics you’ll have a keen interest in how data, analytics and visualisation can drive decision making – ideally with some certificated experience of using visualisation software. You’re an analyst who can also communicate and present well – managing and prioritising multiple projects at once. Ideally you’ll also have knowledge and experience of data modelling, SQL for data transformation and data science (Python or R).

Job description

The Data Insights Analyst role is in the Analytics team within Data & Digital function and plays a key role accelerating data driven decision making, digital transformation and enable self-service analytics across Ofgem. They will design and develop analytic products such as dashboards, reports, visualisations and alerts to answer strategic business questions using a range of modern data analytics technology e.g. Power Bi, Azure Synapse, Python and Qlik Sense.

This role will also include contribution to Data Insights best practice and training to be shared and used by all Ofgem employees. They will be responsible for promoting data driven decisions across all directorates and training others to make better use of their data.

Key Responsibilities:

•Design, build, test and deploy analytic products e.g. dashboards, reports, alerts or visualisations
•Collaborate in the support, maintenance and fixes on live production analytics products as needed
•Find, access and prepare data for us in analytic products
•Perform analysis to support strategic business decisions e.g. assess data, find trends, drill down, assess relationships or causality, create forecasts
•Design, build, test and deploy data pipelines for use in analytic products
•Contribute to best practice, training and events around Data Insights at Ofgem

Person specification

  • Experience of using data visualisation software such as Power BI to develop reports and dashboard (LEAD)
  • An understanding of how an analytical approach to data can drive decision making
  • Good communication skills, ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users
  • Experience using SQL or Python to manipulate or transform data
