About the Division:

Join our Infrastructure and Laboratory Services (I&LS) division, a part of the Corporate Division. We provide engineering and specialist staff to create a safe working environment for our dedicated scientific teams. Our division is divided into three departments:

Facilities & Laboratory Services: Responsible for day-to-day operations, site support, security, catering, cleaning, waste management, and 10SC Liaison for 10th Floor.

Engineering: Manages complex engineering and infrastructure systems, adhering to critical health and safety requirements, and responding to alarms 24/7.

Specialist Project & Programme Management: Oversees the Capital program, including project management, engineering, and special programs.

Job description

As the Head of Engineering, you will lead a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the effective delivery of Engineering and Maintenance for our South Mimms Site. This complex site features a large steam distribution system that supports state-of-the-art facilities and specialised infrastructure for our scientific programs. Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Providing clear and focused leadership for the Engineering Department to ensure compliance with statutory obligations, HSE requirements, and safety standards.
  • Developing a strategic engineering and facility plan to meet scientific needs while complying with regulations and guidelines.
  • Serving as the Agency Lead for Engineering interactions with regulatory bodies, ensuring safe working practices.
  • Managing and delivering projects within the Engineering Department and wider Agency, ensuring successful project delivery within budget.
  • Overseeing the Engineering Department budget and other formal management tasks.

Person specification

We are looking for a candidate who possesses:

  • Ability: Strong report writing and presentation skills.
  • Behaviour: Ability to make effective decisions and demonstrate leadership at a senior level.
  • Experience: Extensive experience in Facility Management, including Steam Systems and containment laboratories.
  • Technical: A relevant technical/engineering degree or extensive experience in leadership and management of complex facilities and estates.
  • Technical: Expert knowledge and extensive experience in leading and managing an engineering department to ensure compliance with Facility Statutory Obligations, PSSR, and ACDP.
  • Strengths: A motivator who inspires others and is highly driven.
  • Strengths: A decisive individual who uses judgment and takes a considered approach to decision-making.

Alongside your salary of £70,011, Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency contributes
£18,902 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.

  • Annual Leave: 25 days annual leave on entry, rising by one day for each completed year of service to a maximum of 30 days and pro-rata for part-time staff. PLUS 8 bank holidays
