We have a number of Safety related roles we want to recruit:
Fire Safety Advisors
Dstl Safety Advisors are the first line of professional Health Safety and Environmental Protection advice and assurance to Division/Function Staff and makes a significant contribution to meeting the requirements for professional Safety advice. Collectively the Safety Advisors make a significant contribution to meeting requirement for competent advice under Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
The Fire Safety Advisor, together with the Establishment Fire Focal Point, will lead on all aspects of fire risk management.
Estates Safety Advisor
The Estates Safety Advisor(s) supports the SHEA Technical Principal and the Estates Senior Safety Advisor(s) in the day to day activities that ensure that the quality of Estates technical output is fit for purpose, for maintaining and developing the technical capability of staff and for ensuring Estates is meeting the requirements for professional safety advice. Through specific tasking, the Estates Safety Advisor may be required to support the wider Operations Division Group Leaders in ensuring the safety, health and welfare of their staff.
You will provide an in-depth professional contribution through management of the investigations process with an awareness of the interdependencies between different technical and functional areas
Estates Safety Technician
The Safety Technician will select and use relevant knowledge, ideas, skills and procedures to complete well-defined tasks and address straightforward safety issues. You will take responsibility for completing tasks and procedures and exercising autonomy and judgement subject to overall direction and guidance of the H&S Senior Leadership Team.

Job description
In these roles you will:
Fire Safety Advisor Level 5
- Support the Head of Establishment intent with regards to Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 – Part 2 Fire Safety Duties
- Promote a continuous improvement ethos with regards to Fire Safety Management
- Assist in managing the Dstl Fire Safety Management System (FSMS)
- Coordinate and manage monthly fire safety inspections and remedial work as required
- Coordinate and manage the Fire Safety dashboard
- Enable specific training with regards to fire safety
Estates Safety Advisor Level 5
- The direct provision of safety advice to staff in support of Estates and wider Operations Division business delivery, acting as the trusted advisor
- Contributing to the development of organisation Health and Safety policy relevant to Value Chain 8.0
- Evaluation of safety performance through the interpretation of data, monitoring of the integrity and effectiveness of controls, and evaluation of factors affecting performance; identifying areas for improvement
- Provision of assurance services
- acting as a member of the Estates audit team, in partnership with the Facilities Management supplier, undertaking an effective programme of audits and inspection ensuring that reports are issued to an agreed time scale
- support safety inspections by members of the Estates Senior Leadership Team, or wider Operations Group Leaders/Team Leaders
- Scanning for unexpected, emerging and unanticipated risks (e.g. changing legislation or industry standards)
Estates Safety Technician Level 4
- The delivery of low risk non-complex safety related activities as directed by Line management.
- The delivery of more complex safety related activities under guidance from the SHEA Technical Lead/Principal or Divisional Senior Safety Advisors as required.
- Support the assurance team with topical audits and inspection activities.
- Support the FM community with facility safety inspections and the production of reports detailing findings and agreed remedial actions.
- Record, monitor and review these actions and provide regular feedback to the FM community regarding action status and close out.
- Support the Environment and Sustainability team with inspections and duty of care audits.

Person specification
We are looking for someone who has:
Fire Safety Advisor Level 5
- A good understanding of Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 – Part 2 Fire Safety Duties
- The ability to interpret MOD regulations and how to apply these to Dstl holdings/areas
Estates Safety Advisor Level 5
- Career path showing progressive responsibility with quantifiable results in a safety themed role
- An understanding of, and the ability to interpret, H&S law and regulations that govern Dstl
- Awareness and understanding of current and evolving best practice; a willingness to develop skills or knowledge required, and a commitment to continued professional development
- An understanding of the importance of an information and knowledge sharing culture
- Ability to co-ordinate others to undertake problem solving activities and implement solutions
Estates Safety Technician Level 4
- Understanding the business benefits of diversity and equality and how to create an inclusive working environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- A high level of organisation
- Attention to detail and ability to apply scrutiny
- Able to develop networks and use these to address issues
