Job summary

We are looking to appoint a Head of Catering and Retail Services for the House of Lords. This is an exciting position where you will be setting the strategic direction of the Department and ensuring continuous improvement.

The Catering and Retail Service is a specialised team working on site at Parliament providing both formal and informal dining across a number of venues.  This is an opportunity for someone who wants to be hands on with strategic direction as well as ensuring the quality and efficiency of the department is at the highest level at all times.

Job description

You’ll be accountable for –

  • Providing a first-class catering service for the members of the House of Lords, their guests, and staff
  • Direct line management of 5 with a department of over 120 staff
  • Inspiring, and supporting the development of staff
  • Leading from the front ensuring core values and principles are always maintained
  • Planning and managing the budgets and ensuring the department is committed to reducing costs
  • As a senior member of the Facilities Department Management team, you will be jointly responsible achieving departmental goals and objectives
  • Adhering to all statutory requirements in terms of food hygiene, fire and health and safety legislation
  • Departmental responsibility for CRS records management, Information security compliance and adherence to House policy
  • Overall responsibility for Human resource issues in the department such as recruitment, day to day HR issues, discipline, training, and development

  • Proven senior catering management experience in the hospitality industry managing a highly complex and diverse operation, particularly focused on the 4/5-star marketplace
  • Strategic vision and proven track record of innovation for development of business
  • Leadership and personal management skills with the ability to inspire
  • Analytical approach to problem solving
  • Excellent communication skills both written and orally
  • Highly organised
