The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) is the estate expert for Defence, supporting the armed forces to enable military capability by planning, building, maintaining, and servicing infrastructure.
Our responsibilities include:
Plan and deliver major capital projects and lifecycle refurbishment
Provide utilities services
Manage soft facilities management (i.e. cleaning and catering)
Provide a safe place to train
Allocate Service Families Accommodation
Procure and manage routine maintenance and reactive repair
Provide a central register of asset information to advise infrastructure planning
Act as steward of the Defence estate
Provide the unarmed guarding service

Person specification
This post is within DIO Regional Delivery Overseas & Training Permanent Joint Overseas Bases team and is based in the Falkland Islands. The DIO Area Manager post is responsible to the Permanent Joint Overseas Bases G6, for the delivery of all Hard and Soft Facilities Management services across the Falkland and Ascension Islands on behalf of Strategic Command customers within British Forces South Atlantic Islands.
This is an exciting and challenging post, in a unique setting within the MOD and offers the opportunity for the Area Manager to deliver high profile outputs within a complex, busy overseas estate, representing DIO at 1* customer level, supporting command capability thorough the delivery of contracted outputs and funded works programmes.
The post holder will be required to undertake site inspections, to a variety of asset types such as, construction sites, fuel depots, remotes sites, an airfield and training areas which may expose the post holder to inclement weather conditions and require them to negotiate uneven ground.
The post has direct line management responsibilities for 1x Lt Col and 2x SEO posts and will lead the team of 16 staff across the two regions.
The post also provide support to 2x HEO posts which are line managed in the UK.
Responsibilities
Lead the DIO team compromising of Military, Civilians and Locally Employed Civilian staff.
Represent DIO at the senior customer level, supporting command capability through the delivery of contracted outputs and funded works programmes.
Working in collaboration with our industry Service Partners to deliver continuous improvement and excellence in Service Delivery
Lead and manage the estate Maintain and Sustain planning: Provide Monthly reports against delivery and updated forecasts, including risks and maintaining financial and commercial probity.
Lead and manage the Soft Facilities Management contract
Delivery of delegated budgets to ensure projected consumption in year is achieved maintaining financial and commercial probity.
Oversight of Planned PPM (preventative Maintenance Programme) to assure that the estate is being maintained to the correct statutory and mandatory requirements.
Provision of advice and support to the customer on all estate matters, including future plans and strategies. Supporting visits including senior staffs and up to ministerial level.
Responsible for the demobilisation of the current Hard and Soft contracts in the Falkland and Ascension Islands and the mobilisation of the Overseas Prime Contract
Attend the Commanders weekly briefs, Command Boards and other meetings when necessary. Provide Reporting officer function for Military staffs.
Develop the improving relationship with Falklands islands Government and Ascension Island Government, maximising collaborative opportunities, and supporting the Commanders directive in regard to island community and capability development.

Working Pattern
The post advertised is for 37 hours net, however the Ministry of Defence offers a range of flexibilities to enable a better work-life balance for employees. Flexible working patterns will be considered.
