About us

We’re MI6, also known as the Secret Intelligence Service. Our mission is to protect the security and economic wellbeing of the UK from overseas threats such as regional instability, terrorism, and cyber-attacks. Working across the globe and in close partnership with MI5 and GCHQ, we help the Government to counter these threats through the provision of secret intelligence. A role in MI6 will see you providing vital support to this work, within a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.

Job description

The Role

£29,979 (rising to £32,333 in year two), plus a £3,050 local pay addition (LPA)

Working pattern: Full time, Monday to Friday shifts 7.45am-4pm (41 hours per week) with occasional voluntary overtime.

As a Logistics Operative, you’ll be the face of the logistics team  within our Estates Department. You’ll be the first person our couriers meet when making deliveries, ready and willing to assist with a range of day-to-day duties from goods-in to despatch. You could be taking receipt of items; x-ray scanning, unpacking, and recording deliveries on our systems; or packing items to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) standards and bagging consignments to move as diplomatic freight.

Reporting to the Warehouse Manager, you’ll work as part of a small but busy team providing a full range of logistical services to colleagues in the UK and overseas. You’ll bring a mix of practical logistics experience and IT skills to the role. You could be behind the wheel of our vans and forklifts, overseeing fleet management, or ensuring our IT systems are kept updated with equipment details and delivery records.

Though you’ll be based in West London, you might occasionally be required to work at our sites within the M25 and across the wider UK. Plus, you’ll have the option to undertake occasional, voluntary international travel. Please note, you may be required to work outside your hours for which overtime will be paid.

Person specification

About You

You’ll be someone who enjoys working in a people-facing role. Happy working in a team, you’ll also be comfortable liaising with colleagues from across the organisation at all levels. No week is the same, so you’ll work flexibly and switch between jobs as priorities change.

You might already have logistics or warehouse experience as well as a working knowledge of Microsoft Office. This isn’t essential, as you’ll will receive extensive training upon joining. Importantly, you will have a full UK driving licence, as you’ll be required to drive our vehicles and occasionally travel to other locations.

Personal fitness is an important aspect of this role. You’ll need to pass an Occupational Health assessment prior to being appointed and, if successful, maintain your fitness throughout your career with us.

Training and development

At MI6, we’re committed to investing in the development of our people. You’ll receive an extensive induction into the logistics team upon joining, including health and safety and risk assessment briefings. Additionally, you’ll also have a standard office induction where you’ll get to learn more about MI6 and the critical work we do.

Throughout your career, you’ll have opportunities to undertake a wide range of internal and external training courses. These include forklift truck and CAA training, as well as broader upskilling in areas such as IOSH Managing Safely and first aid at work.

Rewards and Benefits

You’ll receive a starting salary of £29,979 plus other benefits including:

–    25 Days Annual Leave automatically rising to 30 days after 5 years’ service, and an additional 10.5 days public and privilege holidays
–    Opportunities to be recognised through our employee performance scheme
