Job description

The Project Management Office function within DIO is growing within Regional Delivery, and we are looking for a forward thinking, dynamic and self-motivated Project Delivery Manager to join us. As we experience increasing demands from our customers, this is a great time to work on our upcoming infrastructure projects!

The role is critical to the delivery and performance reporting of all their projects over a wide ranging and diverse portfolio of building and infrastructure, with project values typically ranging from £100K to £5M. Working with customers to define scope and ensure the projects are delivered by the contractor to time, cost and quality.

Our military customers have a large and complex infrastructure requirement that requires close management of change initiatives and careful management of customer/contractor interface. You will bring our customers’ requirements to life and lead on the delivery of the assigned projects to full completion, ensuring all programme key milestones are met.

Travel is required between sites to review projects and promote effective stakeholder relationships, spending approximately 60% of your time working from your permanent duty station, or other site locations, to support your work. 

A full UK driving Licence will be required as public transport is not always available.

Person specification

Monitoring supplier performance against agreed achievements and Key Performance measures, including production of regular progress reports for assigned projects. Identifying and taking corrective action and re-prioritisation of the programme as required. Engaging and working in collaboration with the supplier for the successful delivery of projects.

Collaborating closely with Programme managers, site teams and key stakeholders on projects within your areas, regularly updating key project data on Information Management Systems. Building and leading the project team to deliver agreed project outcomes including line management responsibilities where required.

Tracking in year progress; undertaking regular analysis and reporting of key achievements and financial forecasting for the projects assigned to them. Providing effective governance and decision making for the control of projects against delivery and budgets.

Risk Management on their projects including implementation of mitigation/recovery measures where appropriate, taking care of Early Warnings Notices and Compensation Events in line with commercial policy. Ensuring quality and compliance within programme schedules by undertaking regular site supervision.

–  Identification and effective management of project stakeholders that can influence and support the project, as well as expectation management of site staff. Stakeholder analysis, to understand their level of involvement and influence in a project.

–  Leading on Business Case production for projects where appropriate, monitoring receipt of planned benefits. Acting as a trusted adviser, providing customers with professional estate advice and support as required.

Sharing standard methodology and good practice with colleagues across Regional Delivery.

Conducting post project evaluations and preparing lessons learned papers where appropriate regarding projects.

Desirable Experience and Skills:

It would be advantageous to have knowledge and/or experience of:

• The Ministry of Defence
• Writing Business Cases
• Experience of working within a construction, facilities management or infrastructure environment.
• Experience of working with commercial contracts

Environmental Factors:

Project Delivery Managers will be expected to visit active construction sites however, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Health and Safety training will be provided
