We’re looking for an Assistant Land Agent to be part of a team that delivers the professional support and advice associated with a such diverse rural estate.

Job description

The Assistant Land Agent will work within the Estates Team to deliver professional property advice across the District. As one of four land agents within a district team of 160 people you will be advising forest operations and recreation teams on a wide range of legal and estate management matters. A strong collaborative approach to land management issues will be an important part of this role.

The successful applicant with need to be solution orientated, capable of working independently as well as with a wide range of stakeholders and partners such as landlords, tenants, members of the public, external consultants and statutory bodies.

You will help to identify and develop new opportunities across the estate, making a real contribution to our economic, social and environmental objectives.

Key Work Areas

Deliver a professional estate management service to maximise the potential of a range of commercially let and in hand property.

Manage the landlord/tenant relationship to complete efficient and timely rent reviews, lease renewals and new lettings on sporting agreements, recreational sites, cottages and grazing agreements.

Investigate and protect the Forestry Commission’s interests in relation to access, encroachments, boundary disputes and claims. Improve the financial and environmental sustainability of the Estate.

Interpret leases from both a landlord and tenant’s perspective and offer sound professional advice to colleagues.

The post holder will be required to be included in the out of hours Duty Officer roster (covering evenings and weekends).

Person specification

Essential Experience

  • You will be working as a Rural or General Practice Surveyor and if not qualified working towards your MRICS status.
  • Ability to analyse complex and unusual estate management issues and develop detailed solutions to ensure best value.
  • Experience of negotiating contract terms, acting on behalf of either a landlord or tenant.
  • Experience of leading rent reviews on residential, commercial or agricultural properties.
  • Valuation experience across a variety of property types and for a range of purposes.
  • Experience of line managing staff.
  • Competent user of MS Office – in particular Excel, Word and Outlook.

Desirable Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of anticipating and communicating risks associated with the use of land and buildings.
  • Knowledge of GIS systems.
  • Experience of managing budgets effectively.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of land management issues associated with environmentally designated land.

Selection process details
