Job description
Reporting to the Chief Finance and Resource Officer, the Financial Controller is responsible for the accounting operations of the agency. Overseeing all accounting functions, this role ensures full compliance with accounting standards and legislation.
As a senior role, the Financial Controller will contribute to the financial strategy of the agency and will help facilitate internal control policies and procedures. Ensuring all financial systems are fit for purpose, maintained and improved where necessary.
The Financial Controller will lead and develop the finance team, with direct line management of a team finance professionals.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the VCA. As the financial Controller, this role will provide you the experience of working in a small but complex agency in DFT with the opportunity to work for a wide range of board culture and gain over seas accounting exposure.
Responsibilities Include, but not limited to:
- Lead and manage the Finance Department in the provision of financial services to the Agency, ensuring compliance with all statutory and Government reporting requirements and standards.
- Lead and manage the continuous improvement of the Department to meet challenging standards, audit requirements and ensure maximum efficiency & effectiveness.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with all stakeholders in relation to business as usual and development programmes, ensuring due process is followed.
- Lead on the preparation and submission of the annual report and accounts and Business Plans, and periodic forecasts.
- Lead the management of reporting of all risks across the VCA, including the maintenance of the Agency risk register.
- Lead on the delivery of high-quality presentations and papers to an informed audience of key internal and external stakeholders on financial and commercial aspects of current franchises.

Person specification
About You
To be successful in this role you will be a qualified Accountant of CCAB recognised accountancy body or CIMA and have operated at a variety of levels across a large organisation within the Finance profession.
You will have experience of managing and developing a finance team, and confidently work with internal and external auditors.
Building effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders will come naturally to you, and you will have experience of this buy working with a Board and Senior Staff.
You will have a good working knowledge of government accounting rules and government finances including HM Treasury requirements and expectations.
Excellent financial modelling skills Gathering, analysing and interpreting commercial and technical information is a strength of yours and you can effectively present complex financial information with ease.
