Our Finance Planning and Analysis team works to provide insights and guidance that shapes the Agency’s approach to its work, allowing us to achieve better value for our money so that we can further its impact and do the best we can to protect public health.

Job description

As our new Finance Analyst you will support the FSA in achieving Value for Money (VfM) throughout its reporting cycles ensuring consistency of approach and ensuring better quality management information for decision making by the Executive Management Team, Heads of Division (HoDs) and Cost Centre Managers.

This is a varied role that will give you the chance to make a real difference to the effective financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, monitoring and reporting of activity in the FSA. Working collaboratively with finance colleagues, you will develop good working relationships with budget holders across the organisation so that you can identify their business, financial and reporting needs and ensure that their forecasts are updated regularly and their budgets actively managed.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles (opens in a new window), and will assess your Behaviours, Ability and Experience.

Application and shortlisting

You will be asked to provide personal details (not seen by the Panel) and to confirm your eligibility to apply for the role.

Ability: You will be asked to complete an online numerical test and, if successful, will proceed to the rest of the application.

Technical: You will be asked a question to confirm that you meet the Technical requirements of the role. 

·         Part qualified with CCAB, CIMA, AAT (or equivalent)

or

·         willing to commence study to obtain CCAB, CIMA, AAT within the first 6 months of joining the FSA .

 

If you cannot answer yes to this question – you will not be able to proceed further with your application.

You will then be asked to complete an application which will be used to assess you against the following essential and desirable criteria. (Desirable criteria will only be assessed in

the event of a tie between candidates).

Experience

Essential

·         Lead criteria:  Experience in a financial or other relevant business support role involving producing monthly / year-end accruals and prepayments and monitoring forecasts & budgets. 

·         Evidence of developing effective budget holder relationships.

·         Proven ability to work well under pressure and manage work to fixed deadlines.

·         Intermediate MS Excel skills (e.g. able to effectively utilise Pivot tables, vlookup, sumIF etc).

Desirable

·         Using a computerised accounting package (Workday preferred or SOP/Oracle or similar), and intermediate Word/PowerPoint/IT skills.

Lead Criteria An initial sift may take place on just the identified Lead Criteria indicated.

In the event that we receive a large number of applications, the minimum pass mark for the Lead Criteria may be raised at shortlisting stage. Candidates who apply under the DCS, GPTW or RIS schemes and meet the minimum requirements will be unaffected by the pass mark raise.

Interview

If successful at shortlisting stage, you will be invited to a final interview in which we will assess you against the following Experience requirements of the role and Civil Service Behaviours Level 3
