Job summary

Dstl’s Risk, Assurance and Governance (RAG) function sets the standards for governance, risk management and assurance in Dstl.

We also maintain Dstl’s ISO 9001 certification and quality management system, a key part of our system of internal control. This includes setting the standards for policy and process design, management and improvement, and supporting the organisation in the design of new policies and processes, or improvement of existing policies  and processes.

We also deliver assurance activities to provide evidence that our policies and processes are providing the right control managing the organisation’s risks.

The Business Process Advisor is a key role in underpinning our internal control approach and in raising the standards of process management across the organisation. The Business Process Advisor works closely with Dstl’s Process Owners, Process Stewards and other stakeholders on the design, review, implementation and improvement of Dstl policies and processes.  

Working with agility, sharing knowledge and using best practice, they build strong, trusted relationships to enable engagement in effective process management.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the Ministry of Defence (MoD) Quality Development Scheme which will provide a foundation to their professional development.

Job description

In this role you will:

  • Collaborate with and influence Dstl’s Process Owners and Stewards, and other process users, to design, review and improve Dstl’s policies and processes.
  • Provide support, technical assistance and advice to Dstl’s Process Owners and Stewards in relation to Dstl’s Management System (Themis).
  • Collaborate with Process Owners and Stewards to ensure that Themis has accurate, coherent and up to date processes, in the appropriate format.
  • Contribute to and attend monthly Process Owners and Stewards forums and provide input on topics which you are responsible for and/or have knowledge of.
  • Support and guide Process Owners and Stewards in their periodic review of processes, and assist with the update of Themis documentation as appropriate.
  • Engage with and contribute to the periodic review of Dstl’s Process Management process (part of the 10.0 Governing process family) and supporting documents / information.
  • Provide resilience and support to the Principal Process Advisor and MS Manager whilst providing direction to the MS Administrator.

Person specification

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience of designing, managing and improving organisational policies and processes.
  • Experience of providing assurance on the effectiveness of systems of internal control.
  • The ability to think of systems holistically rather than as separate parts.
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and a drive to deliver improvement.
  • The ability to build and maintain trusted working relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Experience of agile working to maintain, prioritise and deliver timely outputs.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and influence a diverse set of stakeholders.
