Job summary

These are new roles at the heart of the Department of Business and Trade, following the Machinery of Government changes and the formation of the new Department.

We are expanding the newly formed Partnerships Team to build additional capacity, reflecting the expanded remit of the Department across its Partner Organisations (which is how DBT refers to its ‘Arm’s Length Bodies’ (ALBs), which include household names such as the Competition and Markets Authority, Companies House and Post Office).

We are at an exciting time in the development of the Department’s wider governance structures and the Partnerships Team have an integral part to play in building systems with appropriate scope for the broad Partner Organisation landscape. 

The Partnerships Team ensures that the Partner Organisations are run effectively and deliver value for taxpayers. We provide assurance to the Permanent Secretary through carrying out a wide range of activities, ensuring good governance and accountability of Partner Organisations in line with Cabinet Office/HM Treasury expectations. 

ALB Reviews are a demanding element of the Cabinet Office Public Body Reform Programme, a high-profile programme designed to test whether ALBs are meeting expected standards.

Job description

The Roles

There are 2 SEO roles available in the Partnerships Team, with responsibilities including the support of good Corporate Governance standards across the Department, driving forward assurance, risk and data management relating to our Partner Organisations, capability building and supporting reviews of our Arm’s Length Bodies.

These will both be high profile roles dealing with a range of complex stakeholders, engaging with information critical to providing the Permanent Secretary with confidence in Partner Organisation performance, assurance and risk management.

Whether working on assurance, risk and data management or supporting the team across governance, capability building and reviews, these roles provide excellent exposure to interesting and varied work and will create opportunities to feed into Departmental governance structures. 

There will also be scope to provide further support to other team members where required, which could include PMO functionality and communications and engagement with stakeholders.

 Key responsibilities: 

  • Support all aspects of the assurance, risk and data management work undertaken within the Partnerships Team.
  • Support the G7 Corporate Governance Business Partners, including implementation of the Sponsorship Code of Good Practice and capability building across the department.
  • You will work with a G7 to ensure that the team has sufficient planning to deliver the necessary assurance for the Permanent Secretary, in his role as Principal Accounting Office of DBT’s Partner Organisations.
  • Supporting the work on the Partnerships assurance framework to monitor and improve Policy Sponsors and Partner Organisations’ compliance with the Sponsorship Code of Good Practice, which is being implemented across the Partner Organisations.
  • Effectively demonstrate and role model good governance and an understanding of sponsorship behaviours and approaches, including understanding the principles of good Corporate Governance.
  • Managing and responding to Cabinet Office requests, ensuring a process is in place for meeting central expectations and ensuring continuing improvement to this process.
  • Act as further support to other team members where required, which could include PMO functionality, ALB Reviews, capability building, communications and engagement with stakeholders.

  • Experience working with PowerBI to interpret and present data.
