Job summary

This role is to support business management across the centralised analytical department and/or the embedded out wider analytical community. Most of the work will be to provide support and advice to the Business Manager, Deputy Directors and their people or finance champions in all corporate areas. They will also support the analytical professions across all DBT teams (Economists, Statisticians, Operational and Social Researchers) with a focus on learning and resourcing requirements.

Job description

This role can cover one of the following areas: Finance, People & Capability, and Capability & Governance (Candidates will ideally specify their area of interest). 

For Finance: 

  • Coordinating and leading monthly and quarterly finance reviews across Analysis Group.  Being the first point of contact for answering any questions relating to Analysis Group spend and forecasts, ensuring that any forecast variances from budget allocations are flagged so mitigating measures can be taken. 
  • Provide Analysis Group budget holders with an effective financial planning, forecasting, and reporting service and regular management information updates. 
  • Working with the Finance Business Partner (FBP) and other finance teams to ensure that DBT’s finance systems reflects Analysis Group’s budget, structure and spend. 

For People & Capability:  

  • Enabling the right people resource, outside of the SCS, with the right capabilities to be in the right place at the right time.  
  • Helping provide and support a talent pipeline, particularly for wider analytical professional fast streamers (GES/GORS/GSR/GSS) and HEO Economists.
  • Capturing and sharing the experience and knowledge gained to build a long-term picture on future capability needs. 
  • Managing the degree apprenticeship programme.  
  • Supporting students of Master degrees, and post-graduate developmental needs of professionals working within the analysis group.  
  • Facilitating all assessment processes including DTA (Development Trajectory Assessments) and EPA (End of Programme Assessments).

For Capability & Governance: 

  • Managing risk and opportunities registers to monitor risks including spend and to facilitate mitigations and/or provide short term remedial budgetary actions.  
  • Preparing Analysis Group resourcing asks with supporting narrative during comprehensive spending reviews, business planning cycles and quarterly finance reviews. 
  • Managing the meeting cycles including agenda, invites, forward look and progress against action plans.  

Ensuring compliance across all cross-departmental functions such as in-year rewards, performance management and adherence to process.

  • Ability to be pro-active and enthusiastic, with good judgement and excellent organisational skills.

Desirable Criteria  

  • Previous experience of working in a fast-changing delivery environment, showing a flexible approach to dealing with a challenging workload, and the ability to manage conflicting priorities.

Location

This role is available in seven UK locations and can only be worked from within the UK, not overseas. Travel to your primary office location will not be paid for by DBT, but costs for travel to an office which is not your main location will be covered.

Vetting
