Job description

DVLA has an exciting opportunity within the Information Assurance & Governance (IAG) team for a Data Protection and Compliance Manager. You will work closely within a small, dynamic team to deliver outcomes and provide support to the Senior Executive Officer leading the workstream and wider Senior Management Team.   

You will be responsible for managing data sharing requests and assuring processes for compliance with data protection or information security standards. Working with relevant stakeholders you will ensure compliance with legislative or regulatory frameworks and DVLA policy and guidance.    

You will be highly consultive with the ability to analyse and relay sometimes complex information, providing information assurance support and guidance to stakeholders and the wider business, ensuring the processes we use to share our data meet regulatory and legislative requirements. You will review and assure new and existing data processing activities providing the Information Asset Owner, DVLA Chief Data Officer, SIRO and DVLA Data Protection Manager (DPM) with the assurances and risk profile in order to inform any decision making.   

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include but not necessarily limited to:

  • Managing requests to share or process personal data in line with agreed governance, ensuring there is a legal gateway to do so, data protection principles are adhered to and data is protected accordingly
  • Providing advice and guidance to Operational Service Management, Service Designers, Project Managers and other relevant stakeholders, to ensure compliance with data protection principles and data sharing policy and procedures
  • Providing a positive stakeholder / customer experience, through the understanding of often complex and diverse legal, regulatory and data security requirements to ensure a quality of service and undertake regular self-assessments to improve customer / stakeholder service

Additional information 

Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement, for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 35 hours per week. 

This role will be based in Swansea, and we will be operating a hybrid working model that allows you to work between home and on-site giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work, subject to business needs and this also allows for ongoing support, development, and collaboration with colleagues.  

Therefore, the expectation is that you will spend a minimum of 60% of your working time based at your principal workplace (DVLA). We would encourage you to discuss the working arrangements for this role with us during the recruitment process. 

Person specification

For this role, you will need to be a highly proactive individual who can evidence strong stakeholder management skills. You will have an ability to analyse and understand complex information and relay and tailor it effectively to all stakeholders, whether that be in written or verbal format. You will need to articulate sometimes complex information clearly in documents, allowing readers to fully understand the requests raised, so will need excellent drafting skills.

With your excellent communications skills, you will have the confidence to challenge and influence your stakeholders. You will be a strong advocate of change and continuous improvement, contributing to the development and continual improvement of the service you and the wider team provide, driving close collaboration between all.  

Excellent organisational skills are required, and you will need to be able to manage and filter workflow as well as organise and prioritise your work to maximise productivity and achieve all deadlines.

If you have not already achieved the qualifications listed in the role profile, you will be required to work towards obtaining these whilst in post.
