The role will support decision-making, strategic oversight and assurance across the wider CQC governance framework including at Board and Executive level. The successful candidate will have an eye for quality improvement and will look for ways to enhance our Governance processes.

What you will bring
We are looking for a dynamic Governance professional with a keen eye for detail and quality, driving efficient and effective processes which facilitate strategic decision-making. As an inspiring people-leader, you will motivate your team in delivering high quality support to the Board and Executive Team.
Person specification
Accountabilities:
Prepare, review and update corporate governance products, including (but not limited to) the corporate governance framework, scheme of delegation, governance evaluation framework, standing financial instructions and other relevant documents and information.
Support the Head of Governance in designing and implementing a strategic governance framework, to include decision-making processes, communication channels, accountability matrices and a set of policies, procedures and practices that define the roles and responsibilities within the governance structure.
Review and map the governance forums in each strategic area ensuring alignment to ET sponsors and the Board on strategic delivery and subsequent activities.
Embed and then manage the consistent and effective application of governance practices across the organisation in line with the framework.
Provide timely advice to colleagues at all levels and across strategic areas on core governance principles and processes.
Lead the implementation of the Board Assurance Framework.
Review and update the Corporate Policy Register and liaise with business leads to ensure policies receive timely approvals in line with the Corporate Policy Schedule.
Accountable for the performance and operation of the governance function, which includes line management of colleagues within the team.
Ensure that governance committee agendas, minutes, forward plans and other relevant resources are produced in a timely manner and are of a high standard.

Essential Skills and Experience:
Graduate level education or equivalent.
Expert knowledge of the theory of corporate governance, corporate governance guidance and best practice across all sectors, including public bodies.
Ability to apply corporate governance principles to new areas.
Wide ranging understanding of the roles and responsibilities within the organisation, from Board to Team level, and ability to impact knowledge to achieve effective planning and delivery.
Thorough knowledge of the outputs and disclosures required by a Departmental Arms Length Body.
Delivery and organisational skills.
Communication and interpersonal skills.
Copes with ambiguity and is comfortable working independently in a dynamic environment.
Corporate governance expertise; awareness of good practice; experience in preparing core corporate governance documents and products; ability to deliver high quality product to tight deadlines; highly flexible and able to re-order priorities at short notice.
ICSA or CGI qualification preferable, but not essential.
