Job summary
This post is located within the Army Aviation Centre (AACen) at Middle Wallop. The AACen is responsible for the training pipeline for, and delivers, Aviation Training, both Aircrew and Groundcrew for the Army Air Corps (AAC), as such the organisation is hugely influential in the development of Aviation war-fighting capability!
The Health and Safety post sits within the Headquarters (HQ) Team, providing assurance and support to the Headquarters.
This role will act as the focal point for advice in all Safety, Health, Environmental Protection (SHE) matters. Ensuring that all assurance is following MOD policy and legislation.
The postholder will be supporting the Head of AACen in ensuring compliance with SHE legislation and implementation of the SHE management systems.
You will work alongside civilian and military staff within a professional environment and have line management responsibilities for one member of staff!
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
The post-holder requires good communication and inter-personal skills and duties include:
Key Areas of Responsibilty:
Undertake, SHE inspections for internal assurance, providing reports and feedback to Units and Depts as required.
Provide specialist advice and assistance to the Head of establishment and Duty Holder, and to line management on matters relating to maintaining a safe place of work and on Environmental Protection (EP).
Act as SHE focal point for all Unit Safety Advisors (USAs), personnel and permanent contractors.
Collation and maintenance of SHE related accident/incident/near-miss reports, producing analysis where required. Liaison with the Reporting and Safety Centre where necessary.
Managing personal data as part of accident and incident recording.
Advice and guidance on incident investigation and completion of Investigation forms and reports as appropriate.
Advising on specific SHE training requirements and facilitation of Internal SHE courses for personnel.
Preparation, revision or amplification (where required) of existing SHE orders, instructions and policy documents.
To receive and disseminate SHE information as widely as appropriate.
Promote awareness amongst Station personnel and the local community of positive EP achievements and of Middle Wallops commitment to environmentally responsible behaviour.
Manage the central collation of Fire Risk Assessments and records of completion.
To act as a point of contact for enquiries by external agencies such as the HSE, Environment Agency and Local Authority.
Any other duties commensurate with grade and experience as directed by Line Manager.
We are looking for someone who is willing to work alongside both military and civilian staff, as well as working in liaison with a range of contractors, the post holder will use SHE management skills to ensure compliance and assurance to the whole of the Middle Wallop site.
Person specification
Essential:
Occupational Health and Safety Level 3 Certificate.
Strong engagement skills.
Clear communication and excellent organisational skills.
The ability to present information clearly to expert/non-expert audiences.
Proficient using MS Office, specifically MS Word, Excel, and Teams.
Desirable:

The post does not offer relocation expenses.
