Job description

This role sits within our Health and Safety Team as part of Operational Delivery, supporting the whole of Natural England. We provide professional advice, guidance, and assurance to colleagues in relation to the health and safety risks posed to staff, volunteers, contractors, and the public by Natural England’s work activities to ensure colleagues are able to make sensible decisions that safeguard themselves and others from harm. 

 

Job description   

This is a period of growth and development for the Health & Safety team and as a Team Leader with strong leadership skills, you will play an essential role in coaching and developing your team, helping people to further their careers and interests. You’ll provide direction and guidance, monitoring the quality of work delivery and service provision, by ensuring Natural England’s Ways of Working are embedded into your team and leading by example.

Key Tasks/Accountabilities

  • Inspire, motivate, and develop the staff through an appropriate mix of leadership, guidance, support, coaching, line, and functional management.
  • Develop and continuously improve team performance by using the performance management system, address and resolve poor performance.
  • Role model communications and ways of working; sharing good practice and inspiring the wider team through practical and effective examples of delivery.
  • Create a supportive culture that enables team members to innovate, and to reflect, review and learn lessons from their work.
  • Proactively deal with complex and contentious issues relating to people and delivery of project outcomes.
  • Ensure that effective arrangements are in place to provide assurance on risk management and governance.
  • Identify and provide ongoing training and learning opportunities for successful career growth and self-development goals.
  • Ensure employees are safe and well, risks are identified quickly, and measures implemented that support the ongoing development of a positive and open learning culture.
