Do you want to be at the heart of real Defence People issues and play a key role in supporting the United Kingdoms (UK) national security whist developing your skills and career within the HR Function as part of the nuclear enterprise?
His Majestys Naval Base Clyde, home to the UK Strategic Deterrent and the nuclear submarine fleet. The main purpose of the naval base is to support the Royal Navy from Scotland through the maintenance of submarines and support of Continuous At Sea Deterrence (CASD). The base currently employs around 7000 people in 25 organisations and is expanding to accommodate future requirements including the Clyde Infrastructure Programme whose vision is to deliver infrastructure in support of “An integrated submarine operating base at Clyde, supporting a Submarine Force that is safe, secure, sustainable and resilient, and ready to excel in operations out to 2067. The number of employees on the base will grow over the next few years to approx. 8500 to accommodate the new Dreadnaught class of submarines. The Naval Base Commander Clyde (NBC(C)) leads the base in the delivery of capabilities and outputs. This apprenticeship post will sit within the Business department of the Naval Base Commanders organisation supporting this challenging expansion programme.
HMNB Clyde is part of the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE) which is made up of several government and industry organisations which forms part of the MOD that sustains the UKs nuclear deterrent. This includes the organisations, programmes, and people within government and industry that help deliver the UKs nuclear capability
The UKs independent nuclear deterrent has existed for over 60 years to deter the most extreme threats to our national security and way of life, and that of our NATO Allies. To ensure that we have a credible and capable nuclear deterrent for as long as the security situation requires, we are building four new nuclear armed submarines known as the Dreadnought Class and replacing our nuclear warheads. These renewal programmes will utilise world-leading technology and are a showcase in science and engineering, highlighting the prowess of British industry.

This is a Fixed-term Appointment training as a HR People Professional L5 with Babington, in the Defence Nuclear Organisation. Your responsibilities will be as described in this job advert. The reason why you are appointed for a fixed period is due to training and requirements of the TLB. This post will therefore begin on your appointment and end 27 months after that date . You should be aware that when your Fixed-term Appointment at MOD comes to an end, arrangements will be made in line with the FTA policy.
If you are a permanent MoD civil servant and are found successful for an advertised Fixed-term Appointment (FTA) you should move into the post under a Temporary Transfer (for up to a maximum of 23 months). At the end of the posting you will return to your previous MoD Business area. If this posting is at a higher grade, your promotion will be temporary, and you will return to your substantive grade at the end of the Temporary Transfer. If a Temporary Transfer cannot be agreed between all parties then a transfer on an FTA contract is possible, read the FTA and Change of Work Location in the UK policy for further information.
If you are transferring to MoD from another government department (OGD) you should join the MoD on an inward loan. At the end of the loan you will return to your home (OGD) department. HR People Professional L5 Apprenticeship During your HR People Professional L5 apprenticeship you will work towards C.I.P.D. qualification Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management. This role will support HMNBC Strategic Workforce Planner in provision of strategic people services to Head of Establishment and Senior Management Team. Principle tasks include:
The successful apprentice will qualify for C.I.P.D. qualification Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management (membership is subject to the professional bodies own membership requirements). Once your apprenticeship is complete and you have successfully passed your required modules, you may be offered an interview or may apply for permanent posts within Navy Command. Hybrid and flexible working can be considered for this post. Successful candidates are encouraged to discuss options with the recruiting line manager before starting the role. |
