We are Defence Digital, part of UK Strategic Command, fulfilling an important role in the age of information warfare within the Ministry of Defence (MOD). We provide digital and technology services to our Armed Forces, ensuring they can operate securely via various communication means, including radio, satellite and internet. Operating at scale, with an annual budget in excess of £2Bn and a diverse team of 2,500 colleagues, we’re aiming to make our Armed Forces some of the most technologically advanced in the world.  

As a Talent Acquisition Business Partner, you will be a key member of the Talent Acquisition Team, part of the organisations HR team, who you’ll be working closely with.

This post is advertised at 37 hours per week. 

Strategic Command is going through a significant transformation programme which aims to improve the way the Command conducts its business and delivers for Defence and the nation. As a consequence of this, all posts within Strategic Command Headquarters and in time the wider organisation, are/will be subject to review and potential changes as we continuously improve across the period of the transformation programme. These changes may be minor or could be more substantive and will generate new opportunities.  Throughout, the Command’s transformation programme is committed to following the MOD’s framework on managing and supporting people through the change process and places an emphasis on early and open consultation and engagement with the Command’s personnel and Trade Unions.

Job description

The Talent Acquisition Team are responsible for the delivery of the Defence Digital recruitment strategy, including the attraction and selection of roles within the government Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) profession. 

Reporting to the Talent Acquisition Lead, the post holder will provide a professional and effective service to secure top talent for our Digital vacancies. Your focus will be on volume recruitment where you will be responsible for managing the recruitment life cycle from campaign planning to securing a successful candidate. You’ll be acting as a subject matter expert, providing key stakeholders with advice and guidance, ensuring adherence to MOD and Civil Service recruitment policy, whilst also ensuring time to hire is kept to a minimum. You will be actively promoting Defence Digital as an employer of choice, whilst also providing an exceptional candidate journey and experience. 

Person specification

As a strong Digital Talent Acquisition Specialist, you will be detail focused and process driven, and well accustomed to working in a fast-paced resourcing environment. You will be confident managing a number of recruitment campaigns at any one time whilst delivering a first-class service to both stakeholders and candidates alike. You will have a good track record of campaign planning, direct sourcing, candidate generation methodologies and attraction methods for both volume and niche recruitment. You will also have a proven ability in writing compelling job adverts and enjoy using your initiative and drive to provide resourcing solutions within given parameters.

You will ideally be REC qualified or be willing to work towards gaining this qualification whilst in post.

Responsibilities 

  • Produce campaign plans ensuring volume recruitment is used where possible and timelines are effective to ensure time to hire is kept to a minimum.
  • Write compelling job adverts using Head of Profession Role Profiles.
  • Working with the social media manager, determine optimal job advertising mix, including job boards, careers pages and social networks.
  • Craft sourcing strategies through online channels and forums. Attend career fairs and other outreach events to maximise reach.
  • Carry out Learning from Experience on all campaigns to enable management information and reporting and improve resourcing processes.
  • Using Strategic workforce Plans, forward plan future recruitment requirements and build a pipeline of talent for critical hires and hard to fill future roles.
  • Manage the bulk campaign process partnering with or Heads of Communities and line managers to ensure quality and consistency of hire.

Essential Criteria:

  • Demonstrable experience of working within a fast-paced Talent Acquisition environment.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with experience of partnering and consultation.
  • Experience in job advert creation and placement.
  • Experience of direct sourcing.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to drive diversity amongst applicants and talent pools.

Hybrid Working

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working.  This is a non-contractual arrangement where all employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estates capacity.  Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another MOD workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses. 

External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
