Job summary
The opportunity has arisen to be one of a small team of 3 vehicle mechanics of a heavy goods and light vehicle repair section workshop based in Southall Army Reserve Centre. As part of the London District Light Aid Detachment (LAD) you will be tasked with inspection, servicing and maintenance of a mixed fleet of Army vehicles stationed within or around Greater London. Working for the Officer in Command of the London District Light Aid Detachment and reporting to the Fitter Section supervisor. Southall LAD is one of three locations the other two being at Barnet and Sutton and all reside on 151 Regiment. The Royal Logistic Corps grounds.
The Technical stores department is situated at Southall. Southall Fitter Section served 9 dependent army units last year.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
Person specification
To conduct servicing, maintenance, mechanical, structural and electrical repairs on equipment and vehicles in accordance with current regulations and legislation.
To diagnose faults on the full range of unit equipment so that a timely repair programme can be implemented in a cost-effective manner.
To maintain Joint Asset Management and Engineering Solutions Management Information Systems (JAMES MIS) to accurately programme and record work completed, equipment usage and ES materiel utilisation.
To ensure all vehicle and equipment related documentation is completed correctly, kept up to date and presented for audit as necessary.
On occasion, there may be a request to work from other military or civilian sites and to assist other units to repair and conduct maintenance as directed by the chain of command.
To work to and apply Safety Health Environment and Fire (SHEF) standards.
To safeguard all tools issued to them including all Special Tools and Test equipment within the workshop and to operate machinery and power tools where necessary and in accordance with instructions.
Carry out Mobile Support Team duties to dependent units as directed by the section Foreman.

Mandatory Skills:
Motor Vehicle Mechanics Qualifications NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
Experience as a Motor Vehicle Mechanic
Evidence of communicating and working as a team.
Desirable Experience:
Vehicle Examiner Inspector on vehicles (MOT Tester)
Experience with working on Military vehicles and the use of JAMES Management Information System(MIS) is a distinct advantage
Experience of working on Heavy Goods Vehicle in a workshop environment
