Contents

London* – For London based roles your contractual place of work will be Stratford. However, as that site will not be operational until early 2025 in the interim period you will be required to carry out your contractual duties from Vauxhall, or such other reasonable location, on a temporary basis. For the avoidance of doubt as your contractual place of work is Stratford, the move from any temporary place of work will not give rise to any entitlement to payments for travel time or costs under the Relocation and Excess Travel Policy.

Job summary

The National Extradition Unit has responsibility for managing all aspects of extradition across England and Wales.  The unit is made up of two hubs, one based in London and one in Warrington.

This role is part of the Offender Management Team which has two primary functions:

  • To enable and facilitate the removal of subjects wanted for extradition across England and Wales.
  • To manage extradition offenders on bail and facilitate enforcement action against those who have breached their bail conditions or failed to appear for extradition.
  • You will work alongside a team of police officers and police staff as well as NCA officers to deliver the above functions.

Job description

This role is a closed competition and to apply you need to be a current police constable or detective constable only, applicants must be out of their probation period and have written support from their SLT to undertake this secondment.

You should have practical experience in offender management, this will be a hybrid role with responsibilities across both the removals and offender management functions of the team.

Essential Criteria: 

  • Competent in the use of police intelligence systems including PND.
  • Experience of policing procedures and processes.
  • Possession of a valid passport.
  • Authorised police driver.
  • Up to date in Officer Safety Training / Emergency Life Support.
  • Current knowledge of UK legislation in relation to Extradition and bail offences.
  • Experience of working with stakeholders and partners to manage offenders within the community.
  • Experience of dealing with risk and the recording of rationales utilising the National Decision Making model.
  • Working knowledge in Offender Management in relation to Bail offences.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience of Court Process and Procedures.

Work Involves:

  • Managing extradition offenders on bail including the monitoring of their conditions and facilitation of enforcement action when appropriate and necessary.
  • Compiling of intelligence packs to support enforcement action against subjects who have breached their bail or failed to appear for extradition.
  • Monitoring and managing inbound messages, receiving new removal requests and other extradition queries.
  • Facilitating the collection of custody prisoners from HMP Wandsworth or other prisons and their transportation for extradition.
  • Occasional escort of prisoners to airports outside London to facilitate their removal.
  • Liaison with partner agencies (Aviation Policing, Border Force, HMPPS, Magistrates Court, SERCO and all other police forces nationally).
  • Collecting and transporting of travel documents to and from various locations.
  • Maintaining the ID property store and registry.
  • Any other duties as required to enable the facilitation of the removal of subjects wanted for extradition from England and Wales.
