Job summary

We are seeking an experienced practitioner psychologist to lead our small team and to provide professional leadership which supports the safe and effective delivery of Psychological Services to the NCA workforce. The role reports to the Head of Clinical Services and Wellbeing, who will also provide clinical supervision.

Job description

The role requires leveraging both internal resources and commercial providers to deliver services that reflect the high risk environment in which our officers work, maximising attendance and health, through preventative and responsive assessments and interventions.  Working within an Occupational Health setting, Psychological Services work closely with a multidisciplinary team including Administrators, Occupational Health Nurses, Technicians and Doctors.

The role includes performance management of a team of clinical and counselling psychologists, providing clinical supervision, in addition to contract management of third party suppliers.  The role provides clinical consultative support across the agency including working with the Wellbeing Team and the Mental Health First Aid Network.  The role ensures compliance with the Psychological Risk Matrix, providing high quality, evidence based assessments, that are tailored to NCA roles and their associated psychosocial hazards.  The role ensures the timely delivery of pre-employment, pre-placement and routine psychological assessments, along with line management referrals.  The role includes governance around treatment interventions and their potential procurement.  The role works across the UK, its devolved nations and has officers on international deployment, so Psychologists work across this footprint.  There is opportunity for regular clinical practice through the core service offers.

Main Responsibilites:

  • To lead a team of psychologists within Occupational Health Psychological Services, providing direction, management and clinical supervision working to the Head of Clinical Services and Wellbeing.
  • Work with the team to ensure the delivery of bespoke clinically evidenced based assessments regarding officers fitness for role.
  • Engage the Head of Clinical Services and Wellbeing to continuously improve Psychological Services in order to deliver successful outcomes to wider NCA strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with the Occupational Health & Wellbeing Managers and third party suppliers to ensure Psychological Services are delivering a joined up, innovative and high quality service to the agency.
  • Lead the contract management of any third party psychological services suppliers.  Regularly review management information and performance data, ensuring compliance with key performance indicators.
  • Effectively line manage direct reports, undertaking performance development plans and reviews, in addition to supporting continual professional development in line with registered professional bodies.
  • Provide professional and clinical supervision to clinical and counselling psychologists and other professionals as required.
  • Work as a lead clinician within occupational health psychology, providing an advanced level of psychological expertise, guidance and consultation to other professionals and business managers to aid formulation, recommendations including workplace adjustments and treatment plans.
  • Provide support to the business to include policy development, planning, performance, service delivery and governance.
  • Develop and provide risk specific training/support to mitigate exposure to harm.
  • Lead the strategy for delivery of training on psycho-educational workshops and experiential sessions, such as mindfulness, relating to wellbeing and mental health across the agency. 
  • Formulate and devise trauma focused assessments and rehabilitation plans to aid officers return to work.
  • Devise, manage and/or supervise appropriate treatment plans when supporting complex or high risk cases.
  • Strategically identify need, review resources, conduct clinical audits, evaluate and design proposals where appropriate.  Implement authorised proposals within agreed timeframes.
  • Deliver and provide governance for written psychoeducational articles for dissemination internally.
  • Provide reports and communicate assessments, formulation and recommendations in a sensitive manner adhering to an officers confidentiality in accordance to GDPR and data protection policy and relevant professional bodies.
  • Review, update and develop policy/procedures and data systems across business areas as appropriate.
  • Ensure the quality, secure handling and dissemination of data/information, maintaining confidentiality, sensitivity and a duty of care in line with NCA policy and GDPR across Psychological Services.
  • To manage self-care and be an active participant in professional development.
  • A flexible approach is required, as there may be travel within the role depending upon business need as appropriate. Where possible this is planned in advance. 

Qualifications

The following qualifications/skills are essential to the role and proof will be required at interview:

• Doctoral level qualification or equivalent in Clinical or Counselling psychology.

• Hold full Membership with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or Association of Clinical Psychologists (ACP-UK).

• Hold registration with the Health Care Professional Council (HCPC) as a clinical or counselling psychologist.

• Have been registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Care Professional Council for a minimum of five years and been practising during this time.

• Evidence of providing regular clinical supervision.
