If so, we are looking to recruit a highly skilled, organised, and enthusiastic Civilian Medical Practitioner (CMP) to join our supportive and welcoming team at Defence Primary Health Care (DPHC) Aldergrove, Aldergrove Flying Station, Crumlin.

Defence Primary Health Care (DPHC) Aldergrove provide a unique blend of traditional team based primary care and occupational health support to military personnel and their families. DPHC has a strong emphasis on education with numerous opportunities to train military medics, nurses, and Doctors and there are also expanding opportunities to develop in leadership roles and areas of special interest.

The vacant post is a full-time position working 37 hours per week. Part-time candidates will be considered but due to service delivery requirements it must be on a job share basis as full-time hours need to be covered.

Job description

The successful postholder will be responsible for providing primary and occupational healthcare in line with GMC Standards to ensure that our objectives to optimise patient care are met, supporting DPHC in delivering a safe and effective service. The post holder will also participate in the mentoring of junior personnel, helping to ensure that their training needs are met.

Although the post is based at Aldergrove Medical Facility, the successful candidate will also be required to provide cross cover at Holywood and Lisburn Medical Facilities when required.

This post is eligible for NI RRA of £750.

Person specification

Main details of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Providing general healthcare to all registered patients during normal practice hours.
  • Improving the levels of health, wellbeing and employability of Service personnel to ensure the needs of the single Services are met.
  • Undertaking mandatory medical examinations and providing appropriate occupational healthcare and advice, and all supporting administrative duties.
  • Providing appropriate preventative medical advice to both individuals and Chain of Command.
  • Appropriately supervising the management of communicable diseases, including monitoring and reporting through single Service chains.
  • Providing primary care emergency treatment to any patient who may require this within the Establishment.

Desirable Experience:

  • Knowledge of medical IT systems used within the Defence Medical Services.
  • Occupational health and in particular military occupational health.
  • Musculoskeletal medicine.
  • Experience of Armed Forces Medicine, relevant to the single Service environment, i.e.Aviation Medicine.

Licences

Holding a current Licence to practise.

Qualifications

Certificate of Prescribed Equivalent Experience or Statement of Acquired Rights (now known as CCT) from the Joint Committee in Post Graduate Training in General Practice (JCPGT(GP)).

Post Graduate Training Certificate in General Practice and a Certificate of General Practice Vocational Training (GPVT).

Memberships

Registration with the United Kingdom (UK) General Medical Council (GMC), and on the General Practitioner (GP) Register.

Flexible working will be subject to local arrangements. It is expected that there will be limited scope for flexible hours due to the working hours of medical centres.

Interviews will be held on a date to be confirmed. There will be no reimbursement for any travel expenses for the interview.

All employees joining Ministry of Defence who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a 6-month probation period (unless otherwise advised) effective from the employment start date.
