The Chart Maintenance Assistant (CMA) is pivotal in achieving the above aim by providing all the correctly updated material and resources to allow safe navigation within the BRNC Bridge Simulator, WECDIS (The RN’s digital charting platform), Computer Based Trainers, Sail Training Craft, Motor Whalers and in the Vahana twin jet Officer Training Boats.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week

Job description

The CMA will form part of the navigation staff, based in Fitzroy Block, BRNC Dartmouth, and is responsible for the maintenance of both digital and paper chart outfits within the navigation block and wider BRNC craft operating out of the river Dart. They will also coordinate and maintain the vital records for craft operating at sea as well as essential documentation proving the safety of craft in line with RN Policy.

Within this role they will support both military and civilian staff employed to deliver training to Cadets and Officers during the vital first stages of their careers, training the next generation of Royal Navy Officers in preparation for their time in the Fleet.

 

Person specification

Maintain the digital chart folios, publications and catalogue used within the Bridge Simulator, Computer Based Trainers, stand-alone WECDIS laptops and Vahana Officer Training Boats by applying weekly checks and updates received from The UK Hydrographic Office.

Maintenance of digital chart outfit within the Navigation Block.

Maintenance of digital chart outfit on all fitted BRNC craft.

Maintenance of paper chart outfits used on sail training craft, motor whalers and as part of maritime leadership tasks.

Support the Navigation Facilities Manager in the role of ordering appropriate charts and services, liaising directly with United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) to facilitate this.
