Our Team Leaders are vital to the smooth running of Natural England, providing leadership and support for team members, translating the overall priorities and direction into day-to-day work programmes for teams. Team Leaders support our people and strive to ensure a fulfilling work life and a heathy work/ life balance for all. As a Team Leader in the Sussex and Kent Team you will play an essential role in coaching and developing your team, helping people to further their careers and interests. Your role will include:

  • Ensuring that everyone has a safe working environment, and that both mental and physical health are protected;

  • Offering leadership, guidance and support to ensure effective delivery of your team’s work
  • Managing staff performance to ensure targets are met;

Job description  

The Sussex and Kent Area Team sits over a wide geographic area and our work covers a significant range encompassing Local Nature Recovery, Connecting People with Nature, Greener Farming and Fisheries, Resilient Landscapes and Seas, National Nature Reserves and Sustainable Development.

You will be working alongside six other Team Leaders who all oversee different aspects of our ‘on the ground’ delivery whilst ensuring their teams have the necessary resources and tools to carry out their roles.  Close collaboration with your fellow team leaders is a key component of the role as this provides a strong support base for the cohort.

You will become an active member of the relevant local leadership community, the group of senior Natural England staff in each of the localities across England who we ask to provide support and co-ordination for the local group of staff.

Locations

Natural England is adopting hybrid working – which means our staff work from a flexible range of locations, encompassing home, offices (ours and our partners) and relevant sites. All new staff will be formally linked to one of our 25 offices across England and the expectation is that all new staff will be able to access their local office to be part of the community of staff in their geographical area. Full time staff are expected to attend their associated office for a minimum of one day a week. Staff members are required to carry out all their duties working in this way and cannot do so from an overseas location at any time. Travel expenses will be paid if work related travel is required but does not apply to travel between home and your associated office.  This role can be based at either our Ashford or Worthing office.
