Job summary
DE&S Deca is a specialist part of Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) tasked with supporting a vast range of defence avionics, electronics and components to provide high-quality, cost effective support to the UK Armed Forces. We have a rich heritage as the MODs in house repair, maintenance, overhaul and upgrade service provider by offering innovative solutions to guarantee best value for Defence.
The role will require you to carry out Logistic and warehousing within DE&S deca warehouses. To ensure all work areas are supplied with relevant equipment, goods and support within a logistical framework.
Being mindful of the scrutiny on public sector pay and in accordance with Civil Service Terms and Conditions, salary on appointment is normally at the minimum point of the salary range and this should therefore be the expectation. Existing Civil Servants will be appointed in line with the normal Civil Service pay rules.
Job description
1. Receiving and receipting goods including unloading of vehicles, using correct Manual Handling Equipment (MHE), Documentation, Risk assessments and Procedures.
2. Dispatch of goods including packing and loading of vehicles using correct Manual Handling Equipment (MHE), Documentation and Procedures.
3. Manual and Electronic accounting with MOD computer systems. (MJDI Tri-service MOD accounting system, JAMES Army asset tracking system, LITS RAF asset tracking system, VITAL MOD parcel tracking system, BEAVER Calibration receipt/production/dispatch system, BAAN DE&S Deca local computer system).
4. Storing and locating of goods (including hazardous goods and chemicals) within the relevant work areas, while using relevant Documentation and Procedures, following and understanding of Risk Assessments and COSHH assessments.
5. Operation of a consumables Kanban (consumable stock held on the line for speed and ease for the production areas), ensuring stock is replenished when required and minimum levels maintained.
6. Operating within a restricted area (controlling who is in the area and who has access to the stock to ensure the stock is correct), ensuring stock is replenished and spares picked within the hour and delivered to production. As agreed on internal SLA.
7. Ensure High Priority and Routine transport requests are fulfilled and are actioned within a timely manner, as per priority Procedures. (Within 2 5 days following MOD procedures).
8. Ensure mandatory training is completed within a timely and consistent manner, and complies with a regular training schedule. Receiving and receipting goods including unloading of vehicles, using correct Manual Handling Equipment (MHE), Documentation, Risk assessments and Procedures.

Selection process details

All employees joining DE&S/Deca who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period, which will be effective from the employment start date.
