About the team 

As a member of Ofqual’s Finance team, you will be part of a talented team that is passionate about providing a high-quality end-to-end service across Ofqual.

We play a key part in providing expert advice, delivering good value for public money and presenting data-driven insight to support strategic decision-making to key stakeholders across Ofqual.

As an integral part of a diverse team, you will be able to own and develop the role to deliver effective and efficient management of Ofqual’s resources.

What will the post holder be doing? 

The post holder will lead and manage the Financial Operations and Procurement team at Ofqual.

You will provide high-quality financial and commercial support, guidance, and advice, and ensure all statutory and regulatory reporting requirements are met.

This will involve working closely and developing strong relationships with key internal colleagues, other governmental departments, and external bodies to ensure that internal controls, systems, processes and business practices at Ofqual meet statutory, regulatory and auditing requirements.

Your technical knowledge, insight, and ability to work constructively with people at all grades will make you a valued contributor to the decision-making process and a champion for change.

As a qualified Finance professional, you will have experience of leading and managing Financial Operations in an organisation of a similar size and complexity as Ofqual.

You will have a collaborative approach to working with colleagues at all levels of the organisation and be confident in communicating in a way that is easily understood by non-finance professionals.

Your technical knowledge, insight, and ability to work constructively with people at all grades will make you a valued contributor to the decision-making process and a champion for change.

Duties and responsibilities to include, but is not limited to:

  1. prepare and manage the Finance Strategy alongside Ofqual’s medium term Corporate Plan within the planning cycle, ensuring that it delivers financial targets and incorporates all activities the organisation is, or is planning to be, involved in.
  2. ensure all financial records and returns are prepared and submitted within agreed timescales, including, but not limited to statutory returns, the Annual Report and Accounts, VAT returns and Value for Money reports following appropriate statutory, regulatory and auditing regulations and guidelines.
  3. ensure the robustness of records for all balance sheet items (e.g. fixed assets, debtors, creditors, depreciation and amortisation etc.) on a routine basis (i.e. monthly) and resolving all discrepancies in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  4. control, monitor and report on all capital projects and expenditure to key stakeholders against the capital budget monthly.
  5. ensure the timely recording of all income and liabilities (e.g. debtors and creditors) and monitor and report on the Aged Debtors and Aged Creditors position routinely.

    Fully qualified CCAB (i.e. ICAEW, ACCA, CIPFA) / CIMA Chartered Accountant.

    Ofqual works flexibly, with a hybrid office/home based working model. Employees will spend at least two to three days a week working from our office in Coventry. As Coventry will be your base location expenses for travel to the office will not be paid.
