Main Purpose of Job

Legal Directorate’s teams are made up of lawyers, diplomatic and policy experts and professionals in finance, knowledge and information management, and business management. Most of our staff are based at the FCDO’s headquarters in London but we also have staff working from our offices at Abercrombie House in East Kilbride, and lawyers in Brussels, Geneva, New York, Strasbourg, The Hague and Washington.

The Business Management Team supports all teams within FCDO Legal Directorate. This is an excellent opportunity to begin or progress a Civil Service career, working in a challenging, varied and important role.

We are recruiting Business Management Officers to support all aspects of the work of Legal Directorate undertaking a wide variety of central and team tasks as required. 

Each BMO will have a wider networking focus in addition to their day-to-day role.  This provides the opportunity to work with colleagues in the wider Business Management Team, in Legal Directorate and across FCDO to deliver corporate tasks and activities. This is a great way to develop your skills and experience which can be an asset in future civil service applications.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

Key responsibilities for each role may include a blend of the following:

  • leading on finance functions, including processing invoices and managing local budgets, identifying issues and recommending options to resolve queries and processes.
  • processing of Statutory Instruments (secondary legislation).
  • liaising with internal and external stakeholders such as The National Archives.
  • proactively managing diaries and queries for Directors and Legal Counsellors, identifying issues as they arise.
  • providing wide ranging comprehensive administrative support to teams across the Directorate.
  • supporting the Directorate to deliver corporate tasks, including engagement with staff networks such as Diversity & Inclusion and Learning & Development.
  • supporting litigation teams to manage casework, including gathering information on personal injury claims, conducting searches for documents for Court-related disclosure and supporting Counsel on document reviews.
