Job description

We look forward to reading your application for the role of Undercover Policing Assurance Manager.

The Undercover Policing Assurance Manager is required to lead the development, implementation and maintenance of a national regulation strategy, related assessment criteria and auditable processes and procedures for the accreditation of policing units and standardised training and professional development. 

This role is designed to provide stakeholder and public reassurance of consistency in application of ethical, legally compliant and safe undercover policing practices.

This role is a designated homeworking role and will entail regular travel throughout the UK, including overnight stays, to visit and review forces.

Person specification

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing effective working relationships and engaging with key stakeholders and user representatives in policing and related organisations to develop, advise, guide and share understanding of accreditation for undercover policing activities.
  • Through consultation, the review, revision and updating of criteria in line with the Undercover Policing Code of Practice, APP and curriculum, training and professional development to ensure they remain up to date, reflect best practice and nationally support and guide the effective delivery of undercover policing.
  • Developing, implementing and leading ongoing accreditation scheme for force undercover policing units evidencing compliance with regulatory and APP requirements.  Establishing robust processes and determining and communicating data requirements, to facilitate consistent, meaningful audit and evaluation of police forces and/or learning providers.
  • Approving and presenting clear, candid and constructive validation and quality assurance reports bringing challenging objective assessments for senior stakeholders to inform the decision to award unconditional or conditional accreditation. Granting continuing or revoking accreditation of undercover policing activities and sharing understanding of national trends and evidence-based best practice.

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

  • A Degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification or extensive equivalent subject matter expertise
  • A Formal qualification in evaluation, inspection and/or quality management, or relevant equivalent experience
  • Recent, extensive experience of leading undercover policing deployments or managing an undercover policing unit, ideally a current a COM UC (DI) or Head of Unit (DCI)
  • Proven experience of driving improvement in professional standards within policing by working with internal and external stakeholders in positions of influence
  • Proven ability to quickly build rapport creating strong, effective, credible and successful partnerships with the ability to negotiate and facilitate positive outcomes, giving challenging feedback to senior stakeholders
