Job summary

The Mission Ready Training Centre (MRTC) is looking for a motivated and driven individual to join the Quartermasters (QM) Department in the role of Storekeeper.

The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants, ours is a diverse workforce with many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Amy.

The Mission Ready Training Centre (MRTC) is part of the Army Collective Training Group and is responsible for assuring the directed training of both individual soldiers and formed units deploying on Operations within the UK and worldwide. After being closed for several years, Bassingbourn Barracks is undergoing a complete modernisation to accommodate MRTC and numerous smaller lodger units. The MRTC is a mix of Army personnel (both Regular and Reserve) and Civil Servants.

The Accommodation Storekeepers ensure that accommodation assets are managed effectively and in accordance with the current legislation and policy, in order to support the delivery of the MRTC mission.

We are looking for a friendly, well-organised and adaptable person to work alongside other civilians and military personnel and be part of the team.

The role of a Storekeeper is hands on and customer facing, therefore there is an expectation to be on site for most of the working week.

Job description

The Accommodation Storekeeper position is an essential role within the Quartermaster Stores, responsible for the management and control of accommodation assets ensuring they are managed effectively and in accordance with current legislation and policy, in order to support the delivery the MRTC mission.

Person specification

We are looking for someone that has strong customer service skills along with basic digital (IT) literacy.

They will demonstrate the ability to react quickly and positively to change and will understand the importance of following manual handling regulations.

A great team-mate, the successful candidate will be able to work closely with their civilian and military colleagues, as well as managing their own time effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the delivery of all accommodation requirements and requests for both permanent staff and troops under training, working to Company Quartermaster Sergeant (CQMS) Accommodation.
  • Facilities management of the accommodation and the daily accounting for all accommodation stores on charge to the unit.
  • Assist in the maintenance of accounts in accordance with Defence Logistics Framework (DLF) and in line with all Management of the Joint Deployed Inventory (MJDI) processes.
  • Assist in the supervision and control of all internal/external keys on charge, ensuring the security of all buildings is maintained to the highest of levels.
  • Assist in the daily management and supervision of the cleaning contract.
  • Assist in the management of the laundry contract.
  • Maintenance of records on completed and any outstanding daily maintenance repairs.
  • Energy and Efficiencies representative for the unit, ensuring the unit complies and enforces energy saving.
  • Ensure all Fire and Health and Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) policies adhered to as directed by CQMS Accommodation.
  • Any other tasks as directed by CQMS Accommodation.
  • Full training will be provided to use our MOD systems for stock control and inventory.

A Storekeeper role requires a degree of physical ability as you will be expected to lift and carry boxes of bedding and equipment around the store (also load/offload vehicles), and place/retrieve items and boxes from shelving that may be above head height. In accordance with HSE guidance, the recommended maximum manual handling weight that applicants can expect to lift is men (25kg) and women (16kg).

This post may attract the opportunity for overtime as there may be a demand on the store which is outside normal working hours, therefore, a degree of flexibility is required. (This may require the need to work on evenings, weekends, Bank Holidays or outside Core hours. Overtime pay overtime off in lieu will be granted).
