The Air Finance vision is to be an agile, high performing team integral to effective decision making for a world class Air Force.
The Air Finance Team consists of three functional areas; Finance Business Partners, Specialist Services and Finance Operations, which all sit within the Director of Resources area of responsibility, interacting with numerous stakeholders across the Command.
This recruitment is for 1 HEO management position within the Finance Operations Financial Management Reporting (FMR) team.
The team is made up of approximately 60 personnel, divided into 13 sub teams.
This post offers the opportunity to build upon financial, communicating and influencing and leadership skills, whilst working as part of a large, friendly and flexible team. We are looking for a proactive individual to train new and existing team members on producing timely and robust financial information, to help inform recommendations to senior management.
Job holders will be required to liaise with stakeholders including wider finance colleagues (Civilian and Military), RAF Stations and Units and Senior Managers; therefore, proven communication skills are essential.
Professional Finance qualifications are not essential. Air Command is building a learning culture within the Function and your continued development is important to us, therefore support may be available for you, to undertake further appropriate qualifications or attend CPD events.
We are based at Headquarters Air Command at RAF High Wycombe; an attractive place to work, located in the village of Walters Ash. There are good public transport links with regular bus services to/from Aylesbury and High Wycombe as well as free car parking on site.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week with an expectation to attend the office on a weekly basis.
Job description
Finance Operations is responsible for conducting all foundation financial activities regarding Air Command through owning report production and initial financial analysis. The team provide an efficient and effective In-Year Management (IYM) and Annual Budget Cycle (ABC) reporting function, across various budgets for Air Command units.
The team trainer will be responsible for developing and organising training programs for new entrants and managing them for their first 6 months in post. They will be expected to provide a comprehensive report to the permanent line manager on current performance and areas of further development.
The team trainer will work with team leaders and their team members to create personalised training plans and provide ongoing support and guidance as well as refresher training.
The team trainer will be expected to have an excellent understanding of finance processes, keeping their own skills relevant in terms of preparing and submitting financial reports, analysing financial information, forecasting, processing journals, variance analysis, producing informative commentaries and refreshing business plans, whilst ensuring the training package remains effective.
The team trainer will work alongside other team leaders, assuring the output of their respective teams through effective task, training and people management, facilitating a supportive and inclusive workplace environment for team members (EO’s).
Team leaders must be excellent communicators and be able to strongly demonstrate the leadership behaviour. All applicants must also demonstrate excellent communication skills, with a strong focus on customer service.
Person specification
The role will provide training in the following areas:
– the production of monthly forecasts, reconciliations and variance analysis to inform the Finance Business Partners.
– Validate the input and collation of data from various sources to inform annual Business Plans.
– Producing quality submissions for TLB consolidation.
– Processing Control Total (CT) Transfers, Formal Change Requests (FCRs) and Options.
– Creating Monthly Finance Review (MFR) Packs for Finance Business Partners and Budget Holders.
– CP&F Approvals.
– ABC system input.
The role will provide support in the following areas:
– Liaise with central finance services outside Air.
– Financial accounting activities; assuring the integrity of Air Commands accounts.
– Liaising with Corporate Governance to ensure policy is adhered and facilitate better decision making.
– Finance System local support: Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting (PB&F), Contracting, Purchasing & Finance (CP&F) and Excel.
– Liaising with Unit Business Managers.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.
