Job description

We look forward to reading your application for the role of Senior Research Officer – Trials Manager.

This is a great opportunity to play a critical role at the College of Policing in building the evidence base on what works to tackle this priority policing area.

As part of the joint NPCC and College of Policing National Delivery Framework for the policing of violence against women and girls, the College is leading on developing and sharing the evidence on effective policing interventions. We have secured funding for an evaluation programme to test local policing approaches and the successful candidates will be responsible for leading the specific evaluations within this programme.

The selected candidate will lead the design, commissioning, and delivery of high quality, timely and value-for-money research and evaluation projects; support – as part of the Research, Analysis and Knowledge Sharing community – the development and use of the ‘best available’ evidence in policing, and in particular in relation to impact evaluation of initiatives to combat violence against women and girls; and line manage and develop Research Officer(s).

This is an exciting opportunity for candidates with the right skills and experience to have a real impact on reducing crime and keeping women and girls safe.

Some of your responsibilities will include:
•    Lead the design, commissioning, project management and quality assurance of research and evaluation projects delivered in-house by College staff or externally by suppliers – selecting and applying appropriate research and evaluation methods most appropriate to the research questions – to agreed time, budget and quality standards, taking remedial action to address any identified risks to delivery and making sure project outputs are accessible to police and public audiences
•    Develop and maintain constructive working relationships with College staff and external stakeholders (including police officers and staff, policing practitioners, subject matter experts and academics), to increase their understanding of, and confidence in using, the “best available” evidence. Enable them to build and apply the evidence base in policing through providing professional advice and guidance on projects.
•    Lead Research Officer(s) both as a line manager and those allocated to projects as part of a matrix management approach.

To be successful in this role you’ll need:
•    A Degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification in a relevant subject with a social science research competent
