Job description

As the HR Employee Relations Advisor, it will be your responsibility to provide the HR advice and support function to Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) managers and employees on policy related matters.  You will work collaboratively across HR to support HR and the wider MCA’s Strategic goals by proactively actioning informal interventions, along with training support when required in policy areas such as attendance management, performance management and probation.

This role will also provide support to His Majesty’s Coastguard in relation to the management of volunteers.

This is a fast paced and varied role. From providing line managers with advice on attendance to delivering manager toolkit sessions, where you have autonomy to have input into the session content and delivery. This role will provide you with opportunities to build on your existing knowledge and skills whilst working alongside the training, resourcing and pay and reward team.

This role will be based in the Southampton HQ. MCA supports flexible working and operates a hybrid working model between home and office for this role, giving you greater flexibility over where and when you work. Details of the arrangement will be discussed further with your line manager. 

 Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:  

  • Maintain continuous professional competence on MCA policy and procedure to provide high quality and efficient advice, guidance and support to MCA managers and employees within agreed SLA’s, ensuring that advice adheres to government requirements and statutory legislation.
  • Maintain the MCA artificial intelligence chatbot ‘HaRi’ by regularly updating transcripts with key information, including collating and providing relevant MI.
  • Deliver a proactive intervention service to managers for informal probation, attendance management and performance issues to ensure an informal resolution where appropriate.
  • Work with His Majesty’s’ Coastguard Stakeholders to provide support and guidance in relation to the Coastguard Rescue Service and managing volunteers.

Person specification

To be successful in this role, you will be someone who has significant HR knowledge and experience.

You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills in varying circumstances, with the ability to tailor this to your audience.

You can communicate with ease, managing effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

You will either be Level 5 CIPD qualified (Associate CIPD) or be willing to work towards an Associate CIPD.

Additional Information 

There may be a requirement for occasional travel on official duty within the UK, which may involve overnight stays.
