Job description
You will join a small, dynamic team, helping to interpret legislative requirements, develop an understanding of current policy and provide accurate advice to colleagues and stakeholders.
You will assist in the drafting of submissions, briefings and Ministerial correspondence. You will liaise with stakeholders at all levels, paying particular attention to relevant legislation to ensure that DVLA remains legally compliant.
This is a fantastic chance to gain experience and insight of policy and legislation and learn from subject matter experts within the DVLA. This is a fast-paced, challenging but rewarding role with opportunities to have exposure with a wide range of stakeholders across other Government Departments.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Managing the production of and quality assuring draft responses to official correspondence, submissions and briefing for senior officials, ministers and other government departments.
- Ensuring political sensitivity is respected in all communications.
- Researching and reviewing data/information from available sources;
- Analysing and interpreting trend data and undertaking stakeholder engagement and consultation;
- Clarifying policy positions and challenging precedents;
- Supporting policy implementation in accordance with agreed plans/timescales, and communicating changes to stakeholders.

This role will be based in Swansea, and we will be operating a hybrid working model that allows you to work between home and on-site giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work, subject to business needs and this also allows for ongoing support, development, and collaboration with colleagues.

Therefore, the expectation is that you will spend a minimum 60% of your working time based at your principal workplace (DVLA). Person specification
We are looking for candidates who have political awareness with exceptional drafting skills and outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
You will be able to see the big picture, interrogating data to make decisions and draw reasonable conclusions.
You will be highly organised with excellent time-management skills, with the ability to manage the teams and your own priorities effectively to drive and deliver policy objectives. You will be adaptable and proficient in dealing with urgent queries at short notice. You will be a highly motivated and proactive individual who enjoys a varied workload and delivering at pace.
You will be confident in taking the initiative to build effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders in order to inform policy making and deliver a high-quality service.

This interview will be conducted on site at DVLA, Swansea. Full details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.
