Job summary
The responsibilities for the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero for 2023 are as follows:
- Delivering security of energy supply
- Ensuring properly functioning energy markets
- Encouraging greater energy efficiency
- Seizing the opportunities of net zero to lead the world in new green industries
For 2023, our priorities are:
- Ensure security of energy supply this winter, next winter and in the longer-term bringing down energy bills and reducing inflation.
- Ensure the UK is on track to meet its legally binding Net Zero commitments and support economic growth by significantly speeding up delivery of network infrastructure and domestic energy production.
- Improve the energy efficiency of UK homes, businesses and public sector buildings to meet the 15% demand reduction ambition.
- Deliver current schemes to support energy consumers with their bills and develop options for long-term reform to improve how the electricity market works for families and businesses.
- Seize the economic benefits of Net Zero, including the jobs and growth created through investment in new green industries.
- Pass the Energy Bill to support the emerging CCUS and hydrogen sectors; to update the governance of the energy system; and to reduce the time taken to consent offshore wind.

Job description
The Offshore Networks team work to ensure the electricity transmission and distribution networks, on and offshore, are delivered when and where they are needed to support energy targets, at least cost to consumers, communities and the environment.
You, as a successful applicant, will be working in the Offshore Networks Connections Advanced Projects team. The team is focused on enabling offshore transmission projects, such as interconnectors and offshore wind farms, at an advanced stage of development to voluntarily coordinate. The successful applicant will be supporting the delivery of grant schemes and working closely with advanced projects to support their delivery.
Through this role you will gain significant experience working across the Department and Whitehall and with stakeholders to deliver on objectives. Your work will help to ensure that these assets are delivered in an appropriate way that considers wider environmental, social and economic requirements and reduces impacts for hosting communities.
Person specification
Supporting the delivery of the Offshore Coordination Support Scheme (OCSS), a funding scheme that aims to provide grant payments to enable the development of coordinated options for offshore transmission infrastructure for late-stage projects.
Leading on team project management and governance which will include providing secretariat support collaborating closely with industry, energy regulators and other Government departments.
Leading and supporting on preparing briefings for Ministers and senior officials.
Supporting the development of communication materials and lines to take to support engagement with MPs and communities regarding late-stage projects, including many projects which are situated in the East Anglia region.

Selection process details
As part of the application process you will be asked to complete a CV and a number of behavioural statements.

Applications will be sifted on behavioural statements and CV.
In the event of a large number of applicants, applications will be sifted on the lead behavioural statement (Communicating and Influencing).
Candidates who pass the initial sift may be progressed to a full sift, or progressed straight to assessment/interview.
