Job summary
Thank you for considering the position of Typhoon Salam Airworthiness Assurance Officer (AAO). The MOD Saudi Armed Forces Projects (MODSAP) is a unique and exciting environment in which to work, and forms a crucial part of the strategic defence relationship between the United Kingdom (UK) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
You will be joining MODSAP at a key juncture in the UK-Saudi relationship; with Saudi Arabia undertaking an unprecedented programme of societal reforms, while facing continuing challenges to regional and national security. UK defence, security and prosperity interests in Saudi Arabia remain substantial.
The UK has a longstanding bilateral relationship with Saudi Arabia, which currently accounts for nearly half of all defence exports from the UK. MODSAP plays a key role in overseeing the delivery of services under this relationship. It is a large, challenging and complex programme of work that has been running for over 30 years and it is on these foundations that we must build central to this is our strategy to capitalise upon the significant future opportunities within the defence and security relationship of both countries.
The KSA is a fascinating country wrestling with some strategic challenges as it seeks to develop its industrial and defence capabilities against a backdrop of an unstable region and increasing external scrutiny of its decisions and behaviours. This is a rewarding challenge and unlike any other post in Government.

Job description
The Typhoon Airworthiness Assurance Officer (AAO) is responsible for providing effective monitoring and assurance of BAES continued airworthiness arrangements that directly support the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) Typhoon operation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). This post will also provide assurance of equipment deliveries by the Prime Contractor (PC), BAES Saudi Arabia, against the Defence Lines of Development (DLoD).
The Post Holder should have previously demonstrated a high degree of flexibility to reorganise priorities and resources allied with political astuteness to apply immediate programme needs to long-term goals. The Post Holder should also possess a proven ability to effectively communicate with Industry and military personnel at various levels.

The Typhoon AAO responsibilities are:
- Monitor all issued Technical Instructions (TIs) to identify any inconsistencies or errors, and bring these to the attention of PC and MODSAP stakeholders.
- Monitor the BAES TI closure process to assure that TIs are closed efficiently and effectively to reduce / minimise air safety risk and report findings.
- Monitor emergent issues that have a significant potential to impact on Air Safety and assure that the BAES Coordinating Design Organisation (CDO) provide appropriate advice to the RSAF concurrent with any corresponding TI.
- Monitor PC deliveries of Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) and support documentation to KSA for schedule adherence.
- Assure that the PC deliverables are performed iaw with its processes and procedures.
- Develop and maintain strong communication links with MODSAP team members employed in KSA (Riyadh and Taif).
- Maintain working relationships with BAES Airworthiness and Engineering teams at Warton, Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) Typhoon Delivery Team and with external MOD bodies.
- The Post Holder should have proven experience in dealing with UK MoD (both civilian and military) and Industry Departments together with the ability to exert influence as required in MODSAPs monitoring role of the PC.
- Perform secretarial duties for the Typhoon meetings that are attended by BAE Systems and MODSAP personnel.
