Job summary

We are looking for a Survey Delivery Manager to join the Bathymetric Team at the UK Hydrographic Office.

The Bathymetric Team sits within the wider Scientific Analysis Group.  The team is made up of specialists with different levels of experience, including team members who have “grown” as specialists whilst at the UKHO.

The team has 4 key areas of responsibility:

› Verification of all bathymetric data (including multibeam and Lidar) received by the UKHO for use in a wide range of UKHO products and services.

› Planning and delivery or oversight of bathymetric surveys as part of overseas marine capability building programmes.

› Providing Subject Matter Expertise (SME) support, training and consultancy to internal and external organisations.

› Development of new initiatives within bathymetry data collection and processing.

The specific focus of the Survey Delivery Manager role is to manage the Scientific Analysis Group’s involvement in Hydrographic Programmes, and emerging hydrographic professional services delivered by the UKHO.

You will also be required to:

  • Act as Charge Surveyor and Field Manager for UKHO surveys.
  • Act as Client Representative for contract surveys.
  • Provide hydrographic support to the wider Bathy team, coaching on best practice and offering technical advice and guidance.

As part of the team’s role in building the UKHO’s hydrographic capability, we are keen to support the continuing professional development of our specialists in this discipline.  This will vary depending on individual and team need but could include training and opportunities to support advancement through the Hydrographic Professional Accreditation Scheme (HPAS) as well as through the UKHO Career Level Framework, which can lead to towards affiliation with IMarEST.

Depending on the individuals needs and the needs of the team, we prefer to work in a hybrid way. Its advantageous for new team members to be in the office for face to face training and to meet the wider team. However, we are flexible in our approach with no fixed policy.

This role requires the ability to travel/deploy in support of our survey programme, both in the UK and Abroad. Overtime may be available for deployments alongside shipboard allowance.

Job description

As our Survey Delivery Manager you will:

  6. Acting as Charge Surveyor for UKHO conducted surveys. This may involve extended periods in overseas regions, providing hydrographic survey expertise and/or training.

Provide professional policy, advice, and training:

  2. In collaboration with other technical SMEs in SAG, support the development of UKHO policy on hydrographic surveying and data handling.
  3. As required, advise wider UKHO areas and external organisations on matters related to bathymetry, hydrographic surveying, and practical hydrographic project management.
