Job description

Security Services Group (SSG) provides specialist security advice, compliance and assurance to areas of the public sector that require the highest levels of security protection. SSG is the Government’s expert provider specialising in design, installation and maintenance of both custom in-house security systems and highly accredited commercial products on the government estate. 
Working as part of a 230-person team, we provide full life support services to UK Defence and Government sites throughout the UK and overseas.

Can you support MOD with securing some of the countries’ most important buildings and locations? We are looking for a motivated and passionate professional to join as a project manager in the SSG’s Defence Nuclear Organisation support team which has its main office at AWE Aldermaston. 

The position advertised will deliver support in relation to the installation and maintenance of security systems, providing a professional, efficient, and cost-effective service to the customer. 

The position can be based at AWE Aldermaston or Shrivenham Defence Academy and will work on UK Government sites throughout the Reading region.

Project managers based at AWE Aldermaston will be eligible for the Market Skills Allowance @ £1800 per year in addition to salary.

Person specification

The DNO PM will provide a customer interface and represent SSG at high level external meetings; they will:

•    Undertake discussions and negotiations with SSG Project Managers and Client Security Officers       for Key Project and Maintenance accounts 
•    Lead (Line Manage) SSG Skill Zone security technicians and sub-contractors to deliver the               project and maintenance contracts to time, quality and cost
•    Provide full financial management; estimating, job costing, invoicing and budget management,         preparing clear and detailed financial breakdown reports to the Regional Team Leader
•    Be able to interpret and develop SSG Operations and external client requirements, working to           support the team to deliver functional solutions
•    Have a working knowledge of British, European and Government Standards relating to security         together with knowledge of QA and H&S policies
•    Participate in SSG’s (DNO team) on-call rota

Bespoke system training will be provided.

Work is predominately at SSG Customer sites in the Reading geographic region, travelling accordingly across the region to multiple Governmental and Military sites.

You may be provided with a non-liveried company vehicle to work in your region and with personal use (eligible for taxable benefit). Where applicable, the following allowances are payable in addition to basic salary: travel time (where travel is external to core hours), on-call allowance, recall-to-duty allowance, environmental (Radiation) allowance, travel and subsistence package when working out of your region and overtime.

Desirable Experience & Skills:

Membership: Engineering Council 
Membership: Security Institute
Qualification: HNC in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent
Qualification: NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in Electronic Security Systems (IDS, VSS, etc) or equivalent
Qualification: ONC/OND in Electronic Security Systems (IDS, VSS, etc) or equivalent
Qualification: A recognised qualification in Project Management

Environmental Factors:

The applicant may be required to undertake occasional work within Radiological and Explosive Storage areas.

Driving a vehicle is a requirement of the job; project managers are provided with a vehicle to attend multiple customer sites which are remote and not accessible by public transport. Project manager also participate in SSG’s 24/7 On Call Rota.

Qualifications

A Recognised, relevant Engineering background, Engineering Apprenticeship and/or Engineering qualifications, i.e. Intruder Detection Systems, Perimeter Intruder Detection Systems, Video Surveillance Systems and Access Control Systems.

Employment Hours:
