The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is a part of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in-service support, and disposal of the UK’s nuclear submarines. Job description

Are you a Project Controls Manager inspired by the opportunity to shape and define project delivery on the most advanced defence programmes in world? If so, the SDA have excellent opportunities for you to join our most sophisticated, perennial and high-volume projects.

As Project Controls Manager, you will work with Project Managers to deliver projects to the required performance time and cost envelope. You will be responsible for estimating, risk management, cost control, planning and scheduling, performance reporting and management, ensuring decisions are informed by driving accountability and providing correct structure, information and analysis at the right times.

You will integrate with accomplished, multi-disciplinary teams and migrate across several projects in the portfolio, gaining full exposure to the organisation and operating at the core of what we do. You will collaborate to solve challenges unique to our industry and, by linking with fellow minds and allies across the world, will provide a significant contribution to the success of our projects.

At the SDA, continuous professional development is actively encouraged. You will have access to defined upskilling policies, APM qualifications, routes to ChPP and support to prosper. The SDA operate a hybrid working environment with an expectation to attend site a minimum of 2-3 days per week, according to business need/team. Initially, you will be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourselves with your team, role and the environment. When attending site, your primary place of work will be MOD Abbey Wood, Filton, Bristol BS34 8JH.

Responsibilities

  • To act as the focal point for stakeholders for all project controls activities on the Project or Portfolio.
  • To assure integration, quality and accuracy of all project controls data and artefacts produced by the project controls team.
  • Manage a team of project controls professionals to identify, analyse and report on scheduling, Earned Value Management, risk and cost management data.
  • Manage performance measurement baseline (schedule, cost and risk) development, maintenance, monitoring, impact identification and recovery plan development activities.
  • Forecast resource for staffing and industry costs to support project delivery.
  • Oversee relevant project data to identify problems and propose effective solutions or changes.
  • Integrate and analyse supplier performance information and manage change to the performance measurement baseline.

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Have experience managing at least one element of Project Delivery (e.g., risk management, estimating, planning & scheduling, cost control)
  • Previous experience within a Project Control Manager position OR relevant experience within a project environment
